7 Tips For Choosing From Cancun’s Record Number Of Hotels

Share The Article

Last Updated

There are more hotels in Cancun than in most Mexican vacation destinations, and they do a great job of keeping them occupied on a regular basis.

Still, as the city continues to grow in popularity at the rapid rate that it is, even more hotels and resorts are being added to the list of options.

Just this year, nearly 3,000 new hotel rooms were added in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, bringing the number to 130,104, divided between a total of 1,348 hotels.

This huge number of hotels to choose from can be overwhelming, but these 7 tips for choosing from Cancun’s record number of hotels can help.

Determine The Amenities You Want First

A vacation is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable, so amenities are important, but you don’t want to pay for amenities you don’t need either.

This should be the first thing you decide on because it will make filtering out hotels easier.

It helps to make two lists, one for amenities that you want and another for the ones you can’t live without.

Decide Between All-Inclusive Or Traditional Hotel

It makes sense after determining the amenities; you have to have to make the decision between an all-inclusive or a traditional hotel.

Typically, all-inclusives will have a lot more amenities than a hotel, so if amenities are what you’re looking for, an all-inclusive might be for you.

If you plan to spend more time away from your hotel than in it, then an all-inclusive might not be so important, so why pay the higher price?

These are things to consider when deciding.

Research And Choose Location

As with any vacation destination, there are distinctly different areas to stay in when visiting Cancun.

The area with the bulk of the large, all-inclusive resorts and hotels is in the Hotel Zone, the most touristy area of the city.

There’s also downtown Cancun, which is more local but also more budget-friendly, and the Costa Mujeres area, which is perfect for travelers seeking more peace and quiet.

Each of the areas has plenty to offer; it just depends on what you’re looking for.

@weliketovacation We’ve been coming to Cancun “hotel zone” for six years with the most common month being October. The beaches and the water have always been flawless for us every single time. We’ve heard other stories for other months and other parts of area. We’ve stayed outside the hotel zone and have not had the same experiences of beauty. But this is just our experience. We usually go to Cancun 4 to 5 times a year sometimes more and consistently hotel zone is the cleanest and most beautiful beaches. Oh, and the hotel zone is 15 minutes from the airport. Super convenient and has some of the best resorts. Hopefully this helps you in booking your next trip. Set Your Standard For Ratings

Ratings are a great way to see how well a hotel or resort measures up to others, and they are also useful in weeding out the worst ones.

Every traveler has a different idea as to what constitutes a good, bad, or mediocre hotel.

A great way to ensure that you get a good one is to stick to hotels with ratings above 8.0 on sites like and Expedia.

Read Reviews, Lots Of Them

Reviews are undoubtedly one of the best tools you have to help in choosing a hotel.

That being said, you’ll want to read a lot of them to really get the full picture from past guests.

Also, often people don’t leave reviews unless there is something negative about their experience, so weighing the good reviews and the bad reviews is important.

Pay Attention To Cancelation Policies

Anything can happen between when you book your Cancun hotel and when you’ll be traveling.

This is why it’s essential to check the cancelation policies at each hotel you’re considering.

Ideally, you want to be able to cancel if you need to without being charged anything.

@shanikkyworld Had to cancel my trip to Mexico(Cancun & Tulum). A lot going on in June. Moving takes more time & energy than I thought 🥺🥺🥺. I’ll be back in July #traveldiaries ♬ original sound – Shanikky

Check Rates In Different Places

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a hotel for most travelers is the price.

The price for one specific hotel can vary depending on the website you’re looking at, so be sure to check rates in different places, including the hotel’s site.

This is the best way to ensure that you get the hotel you want for the best possible rate.
