CANCUN, QR – In anticipation of a surge of 1.2 million tourists expected to visit Quintana Roo during the Easter holidays, a robust security operation has been launched, deploying over 7,000 military and police personnel across the region. This significant mobilization aims to ensure the safety and security of visitors, particularly in popular destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum.

Governor Mara Lezama announced the extensive security operation, which will remain in effect until April 27th, covering the entire Easter vacation period. The deployment spans all 11 municipalities within Quintana Roo, combining the efforts of 7,244 state, municipal, and federal personnel. The operation involves collaborative efforts from the Navy, the Ministry of National Defense, and the National Guard, all working in concert to provide a secure environment for tourists and residents.

“The goal is for them to return home safely, but while they’re here, to enjoy an extraordinary vacation, one that’s more than just sun and beaches,” Governor Lezama emphasized. “They’ll go to lagoons, cenotes, enjoy food, archaeological sites, and live with Indigenous peoples.” This statement highlights the region’s diverse offerings and the importance of safeguarding the entire tourist experience.

The Undersecretary of Citizen Security (SSC) for Northern Quintana Roo, Commissioner Antonio Esteban Peralta Amador, detailed the operational strategy. The SSC will deploy surveillance and patrols throughout the state, utilizing resources from the Highway Patrol, Preventive Police, Procedural Police, Investigative Police, and Response Police.
According to Peralta Amador, 5,560 state and municipal officers will be strategically stationed across the 11 municipalities. Notably, 217 tourism police officers will be deployed to key tourist areas, including Cancun, Cozumel, Othón P. Blanco (Chetumal/Costa Maya), Isla Mujeres, and Playa del Carmen. This targeted deployment underscores the focus on protecting popular tourist hotspots.

The security plan includes a multi-layered approach, with coordinated efforts between various security agencies. Monitoring will be intensified at key gathering points, such as beaches, nightclubs, bars, and restaurants within popular tourist destinations. Preventive patrols, road safety checkpoints, and enhanced C5 camera monitoring are also integral components of the operation.
Federal support plays a crucial role in bolstering the state’s security efforts. The Navy will contribute 472 personnel, while the Ministry of National Defense will deploy 233 troops. The National Guard will deploy 979 personnel, strategically distributed throughout the state to maximize coverage and effectiveness. This combined force of 7,244 personnel will be dedicated to the Quintana Roo 2025 Easter holiday security operation.

This substantial deployment underscores the commitment of Quintana Roo’s authorities to maintaining a secure environment for the influx of tourists. By focusing on coordinated efforts, strategic positioning, and comprehensive surveillance, authorities aim to ensure that visitors can enjoy the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness with peace of mind. This proactive approach reflects the region’s dedication to preserving its reputation as a safe and premier tourist destination, with Cancun at the forefront.
