Cozumel mayor Pedro Joaquín Delbouis has announced in a press release that Royal Caribbean will return to the island of Cozumel in June. The cruise line announced that sailings will resume June 12 from Nassau, Bahamas to Mexico with a port stop in Cozumel.
“There have been months of a lot of work. We have spent more than ten months in continuous meetings with Royal Caribbean and their international executives to guarantee a safe return of cruises to Cozumel, both for the travelers and the ship’s crew, as well as for our tourist servers,” said Joaquín Delbouis, reported the Riviera Maya Times.
The Mayor of Cozumel thanked the Governor of Quintana Roo Carlos Joaquín González for his hard work to bring cruises back to the island.
Royal Caribbean officially announced the sailings in a statement from Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International.
“We are excited to return to Cozumel when Royal Caribbean resumes service in the Caribbean region.”
“We have had a long and successful relationship with Mexico and we are grateful for the collaboration and support of Mayor Pedro Joaquín and the government. Our destination communities have been greatly affected by the pandemic and we are committed to working together with local partners to drive more employment opportunities and reignite economic growth in the region,” said Bayley.
The first will depart Nassau, Bahamas on June 12 sailing on the Adventure of The Seas before making its way to Cozumel. The cruise will only be open to those who have been vaccinated against Covid-19. Passengers under the age of 18 must present proof of a negative Covid-19 test.
