For Cancun residents, vaccinations are increasing as the second batch of vaccines is expected to arrive in the city this week. Governor Carlos Joaquín González states that another batch will be scheduled for arrival after the city finishes launching its vaccine program, created for those aged 60 and above. The news comes as there is a surge of tourists arriving in Cancun for the upcoming Easter holiday.
As more travelers arrive into the city this Easter holiday, the city of Cancun is consistently assisting its current residents with COVID-19 vaccinations in an attempt to maintain and substantially decrease the low amount of infection cases.
The city wishes to increase safety and confidence for its visitors and aims to accelerate the vaccine campaign.
More than 600,000 visitors are anticipated to visit Cancun over the next two weeks, indicating that the city’s biggest attractions such as beaches and resorts will be frequently visited. The hotel sectors have been reporting occupation rates of up to 60 percent within the upcoming weeks, due to immense hotel reservations being done by international tourists on the arrival of the holiday season.
In regards to this, the city’s governor is implementing more vaccination plans with the incoming shipment of COVID-19 vaccines for residents and tourist staff to prepare for a safe and healthy Easter season.
González expands on the city’s vaccination plans, He emphasizes the importance of primarily accommodating the elderly population with the imported vials of the vaccine and then assisting tourist staff and workers. While Cancun has received more than 6,000 vaccines, it is clearly not enough to vaccinate the city’s elderly population which contains about 55,000 seniors.
‘‘Once the next shipment of vaccines against Covid 19 arrives for Cancun, we will announce the day of its application and the opening of the next modules.” Stated Cancun mayor, Mara Lezama.
