There have been quite a few additions to the long list of hotels and all-inclusive resorts that tourists have to choose from in Cancun this year, and there are even more to come next year. One of those will be the new Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya which is set to open in Cancun in early 2023. The all-inclusive Margaritaville property is a joint venture with Karisma Hotels & Resorts and will be the third project that has developed out of the partnership.
The Margaritaville brand has been around since the 1980s when it was created by American singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffet. The first Margaritaville branded restaurant opened in 1987 in the popular tropical vacation destination of Key West, FL and from then on the brand quickly began to grow. It wasn’t until the 2000s that the brand crossed over into the hospitality business and now over 20 Margaritaville resorts already exist and more are being planned.

The resort, located in nearby Puerto Morelos, is the first all-inclusive Margaritaville resort to ever be opened. It has 148 rooms and suites and ten different dining and drinking venues, including a taco restaurant, an open-air Caribbean-inspired restaurant, and a swim-up bar.

Hotels in Cancun are more than 80 percent booked for much of the winter season and even as more hotels are being added to the region they are filling up as Cancun becomes more and more popular. Millions of tourists from the U.S., Canada, and Europe have already visited Cancun this year and 2023 is ending much the way it started. It’s very likely that next year will be an even better year for tourism in the Mexican Caribbean as things continue to get back to normal following the pandemic and the high inflation that affected tourism on some level this year.
