Share The Article

A vacation is supposed to be fun, and in Cancun, it’s pretty hard not to have a good time, but at the same time, there are always those little mishaps that can put a damper on your trip.

Many of these things are avoidable, though; you just have to know how to avoid them.

So, read on to find the top five things to avoid on your Cancun summer vacation so that they don’t interfere with your dream vacation:

Why Travelers Flock To Cancun

Most travelers who vacation in Cancun or somewhere else in the Mexican Caribbean visit the region to enjoy the spectacular beaches.

Soft white sand, aqua blue water, and warm sunny weather perfect for swimming and sunbathing are what vacation dreams are made of, and Cancun has it all.

But you don’t want to get lost in the excitement of it all and miss something that can make or break your vacation, so try to avoid the following things in Cancun this summer.

Avoid Taxis If Possible

While many tourists who visit Cancun do take taxis, especially to and from the airport, there are numerous reasons why it’s best to avoid them.

Not only are fake taxis a thing, which means the person you’re getting in the car with has not been properly vetted, but you may end up being overcharged as well.

Taxi drivers are also in an ongoing battle with Uber drivers, which has led to some inconvenient situations and even violence in some rare cases.

Private transportation is a better and safer option and starts at around $39 each way.

Avoid The Shark Tank

In almost any tourist city you visit, you’re going to run into timeshare salespeople, and in Cancun, there are a lot of them at the airport.

There are so many, in fact, and they are so adamant about getting your attention that the area that you walk through where they’re set up is referred to as the “Shark Tank.”

They will downright lie to you about being your transportation to try to manipulate you, but your transportation will always be past this area and outside the airport.

It’s best to just keep politely saying no thank you and avoid talking to them and walk on through so you don’t end up at a timeshare presentation.

Avoid Being Disappointed By Sargassum

Cancun and the rest of the Mexican Caribbean get sargassum, which is a brown seaweed that washes up on the beaches.

It can be present at any time of the year, but you’ll see more of it during the spring and summer months.

It’s annoying and it stinks, but it’s harmless, and there are ways to avoid it.

Opting to take a dip in a cenote instead, choosing a resort with an extra special pool, or visiting an area like Isla Mujeres that typically gets less sargassum are all great ways to still enjoy Cancun while avoiding the sargassum.

Avoid Spending Too Much Time In The Sun

Everybody knows that you’re not supposed to get too much sun, but not everyone realizes how hot the sun is in the Mexican Caribbean.

Not only do you want to slather on the sunscreen, but you’ll want to take some breaks from the sun too.

It’s also important to remember that you can still burn and become dehydrated on an overcast day.

The pain that can be caused by sunburn should be avoided at all costs if you want to enjoy your vacation to the fullest.

Avoid The Temptation Not To Leave The Resort

Finally, even if your resort is the nicest one you’ve ever stayed in, avoid the temptation to not go out and explore.

There is so much to see in and around Cancun that will make your trip even more than a beach vacation.

Mayan ruins, cenotes, Magic Towns, adventure parks, and more await to give you a memorable vacation.

Cancun In The Summer

Summer is a great time to visit Cancun.

The warm sunny days are ideal for the beach, there are fewer crowds, and it’s easier to find hotel deals.

And if you avoid these things, you can have the perfect summer vacation.

When shopping, avoid folks that come up to you and say they know you from the hotel. They want you to come and shop at their families store. These folks usually approach folks with an All-inclusive bracelet on.
