This Destination South Of Cancun Is Reinventing The All-Inclusive Experience With This Incredible Announcement

Last Updated

It’s not common for something tried and tested to be reinvented, especially not in the world of tourism. But that’s exactly what has happened in these up-and-coming destinations south of Cancun.

In the towns of Chetumal and Xul-Há, a whole new all-inclusive experience has been rolled out that not only sounds awesome for travelers who enjoy variety but immediately brings thoughts of “why is no one else doing this!” to mind.

All-Inclusive….Towns?

Throughout the Mexican Caribbean, the all-inclusive vacation model is, without doubt, the most popular choice for Americans.

Receiving accommodation, food, and drinks all at one pre-paid price is great for travelers who prefer to put all thoughts of budgeting while on vacation to bed.

But it has always had one big downside: when food and drinks in the resort are in open season, it can be difficult to justify venturing outside the resort in the evenings to enjoy the local restaurants. After all, it can feel like paying twice.

With that in mind, Chetumal and Xul-Há have found a way to lose this downside, giving travelers the freedom of choice while keeping it all under one price.

Select restaurants, as well as local maritime trip providers based in the towns, have signed up with a number of resorts in the towns to open their doors to travelers, all-inclusive of the price already paid to the resort.

Choice Is Priceless

In this peaceful corner of the Mexican Caribbean, it would be a shame to only see the inside of the resort complex.

Both towns are full of traditional Mexican and Mayan culture, as well as a much calmer vibe than the electric cities of Cancun and Playa del Carmen in the north.

Venturing out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and even for a slightly inebriated evening snack, is now as much a part of the all-inclusive experience in Chetumal and Xul-Há as the buffet is in Cancun.

A Positive Local Impact

Perhaps one of the biggest accusations leveled at all-inclusive resorts is that the money spent on them doesn’t contribute to the local economy.

While this may not sound like something that affects travelers, for tourism to thrive in a destination, it needs to be a positive for the local population.

A good example of the negative reputation tourists can receive, through no fault of their own, is in some of the all-inclusive resort destinations of Spain in Europe.

Mexican pesos and US dollars

The attitude to travelers can sometimes be pretty frosty, and at times even hostile. Not from all locals, but the resentment can show its face.

So, for small destinations like Chetumal and Xul-Há, which are only finding their feet as popular tourism hotspots, keeping locals and travelers happy is a balancing act.

That balancing act becomes much easier with this all-inclusive model, which sees 60% of travelers spending going directly into the local economy and makes visitors a welcome sight for the people who call these towns home.

Plans For Expansion

Travelers who like the sound of this awesome new vacation offering are currently in competition with each other to score a stay in the resorts that are already offering this package.

But with big expansion plans to roll this out to even more resorts in the near future, this could be a new normal for an all-inclusive vacation in the south of the Mexican Caribbean.

Is It Safe To Leave The Resort?

It’s a fair question to ask if it’s safe to leave the resort in any destination in Mexico, the nation doesn’t receive the best press at times, and this can be a genuine concern for many travelers.

The truth is, leaving the resort in a tourist destination like the towns of Chetumal and Xul-Há is as safe as leaving the hotel in an American city to grab a bite to eat.

While there is no boogeyman waiting for Americans when they leave their resort, it always pays to use common sense, plan where you’re going, be careful about showing off valuables or wealth, and most of all, keep a friendly demeanor and enjoy the experience in a safe and legal spirit.
