The Mexican Caribbean is full of stunning vacation destinations that tourists currently fly into Cancun International Airport to get to.
Among them is the fascinating vacation destination of Tulum, which has become remarkably popular with American tourists over the last several years.
Tulum has become so popular, in fact, that there is now an airport being built near the vacation destination, which is scheduled to be completed by December.
The following are the top 7 things to see once you can fly to Tulum from the U.S. this winter:
Tulum Pueblo
Tulum Pueblo is the heart of the city and where everyday life happens in Tulum.
This is where you will find local restaurants, shops selling Mexican handicrafts and souvenirs, and small bars and cantinas.
It’s the best place to connect with the local population and experience the authenticity of the city, so it’s a must-see when visiting Tulum, even if you’ll be staying on the beach.
@onmyveganshit It’s no shock that #Tulum has become one of the most popular destinations in #Mexico. Between the natural beauty, vibrant shops, and endless #vegan ♬ Summer day – TimTaj
Playa Paraiso
You can’t visit a Mexican Caribbean vacation destination like Tulum without spending some time on the beach.
There are a number of beaches to choose from, but Playa Paraiso is one of the most popular because it has a little bit of everything.
A perfect powdery white sand beach, shallow crystal clear blue-green water, coconut palms swaying in the breeze, and beach clubs where you can grab a fruity drink are what vacation dreams are made of, and Playa Paraiso has it all.

Gran Cenote
There are hundreds of cenotes that you can swim in while visiting the Mexican Caribbean, and Tulum’s Gran Cenote is one of the most popular.
Cenotes are naturally formed swimming holes that form when caves collapse, and many of them, like Gran Cenote, are stunning.
For the price of $25, you can swim and snorkel in this breathtakingly beautiful cenote surrounded by lush green vegetation with a view to the sky above.

Kaan Luum Lagoon
Another body of water to explore while visiting Tulum is the Kaan Luum Lagoon, located in the middle of the jungle.
While the darker turquoise water of the cenote that lies at the center of the lagoon is only to look at, as it’s not safe for swimming, the lighter blue-green water that surrounds it is.
To get to the lagoon, you’ll have to rent a car or hire private transportation, but this stunning little piece of nature is well worth it.

Casa Malca
For something a little more out of the ordinary, a visit to Casa Malca, Pablo Escobar’s Tulum mansion, should do the trick.
Situated in the middle of the jungle, the mansion became a hotel after being purchased by an art collector named Lio Malca in 2012.
If you’re not a hotel guest, there is a $50 minimum beverage purchase required to look around, but the unique experience is worth the money.

Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve
Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a fascinating place to visit.
Here you’ll find a wide array of flora and fauna, including over 300 bird species, coral reefs, dolphins, turtles, and more.
There are even more than 20 archeological sites within the reserve to explore.
@paradise Did you know that a short drive from Tulum you can visit a stunning biosphere reserve called Sian Ka'an. Here, you can see so much wildlife, including crocodiles. At the Boca Paila Bridge, you will sometimes be able to catch a glimpse of a crocodile in the lagoon, or if you're lucky like us, it will be just below your feet at the bridge. #tulum #traveldestinations #travelbucketlist #findyourparadise #mexicotravel ♬ sonido original – Maria Barbena Triola
Mayan Ruins In Tulum
Last but not least, Tulum’s biggest claim to fame is the cliffside Mayan ruins of Tulum.
The Tulum Archeological Site features the only ruins in the Mexican Caribbean to overlook the sea.
More importantly, they consist of some very important and magnificent structures that are a must-see when visiting this exciting yet charming city.
