The much-anticipated Maya Train will run throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, giving visitors to Cancun and the rest of the Mexican Caribbean a new way to travel.
The Maya Train project is expected to be completed by December, along with stations at both Cancun Airport and the new Tulum Airport that is currently under construction.
And while the train will certainly change the lives of those who live in the region, there are also seven reasons this exciting project will completely change travel for tourists in the Mexican Caribbean.
Affordability
Travelers who have visited the Mexican Caribbean know that getting around can be expensive, especially when traveling beyond Cancun.
Just to get from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone can cost more than $60 one way, so imagine the cost to get to Playa del Carmen or Tulum….
The Maya Train, although exact ticket prices have not been determined, is expected to be a more affordable option to get to other destinations in the region, with ticket prices estimated to start around 26 cents per kilometer traveled.

Comfortability
The cars that make up the Maya Train are state-of-the-art and pretty luxurious, providing a more comfortable way to travel.
Three different types of cars will be used: one designed for standard service, one for long-distance travel, and one for dining.
Each type of train car will be spacious, have plenty of seating, and will provide ample room for luggage so passengers can spread out and get comfortable for their journey.

Pricing Transparency
Not only is transportation in Cancun and other Mexican Caribbean vacation destinations expensive, but pricing is sometimes a little obscure.
Specifically, when it comes to taxis, you never know what to expect in regard to fares because taxis don’t have meters, so often drivers will inflate rates.
Tickets for the Maya Train, on the other hand, will be predetermined, providing travelers with more price transparency.

Group Travel Capabilities
For those traveling in a group of more than four, transportation is limited when arriving at Cancun Airport.
To be sure, there are SUVs and vans available for a higher price tag, but this isn’t really a cost-effective way to travel beyond Cancun.
On the Maya Train, these larger groups will be able to travel long distances with plenty of room for their luggage at a more affordable rate.

Safe Traveling
The Maya Train will be a safer way for tourists to travel as well, for a number of reasons, including the fact that it doesn’t stop in sketchy places.
But more importantly, there will be police officers at each of the stations to monitor what’s going on.
Additionally, there will be land and air surveillance to watch over the train and its passengers.

Accessibility
The accessibility of the Maya Train will change how Mexican Caribbean visitors travel as well.
The conveniently located train stations, particularly those at the Cancun and Tulum airports, will make traveling a breeze.
At Cancun Airport, for example, there will be electric vehicles that will take arriving passengers right to the train station after getting off the plane, with no delays in between.
