The completion of the Maya Train this summer means that Tulum is gearing up for a massive increase in visitor numbers.

While the resort town is already extremely popular, new infrastructure projects will place it on the world map as a leading hub for cultural and historical travel.

Despite its huge appeal, Tulum has experienced significant crime waves in the past. Now, officials want to ensure the city remains safer for years to come.

New C4 Security Center To Come Online Soon In Tulum, Providing Safety Boost

Tulum is attracting a growing number of travelers thanks to its pristine beaches and centuries-long Mayan history. The southern resort hotspot is home to the massive Tulum Archeological Zone, featuring temples, ancient artifacts, and much more.

Tulum’s unique combination of tropical scenery and vibrant culture is set to be an even better deal for travelers thanks to the upcoming completion of the Maya Train.

The new infrastructure project will allow hundreds of thousands of more travelers to easily visit the historical destination, boosting its popularity.

With so many visitors expected to flock to Tulum this year, the local government is investing in a number of safety projects to protect travelers.

The latest is the cutting-edge C4 monitoring system, comprised of hundreds of security cameras distributed across Tulum.

The multi-stage project is already in its first phase, which will see the construction of new infrastructure and systems to allow law enforcement to more effectively monitor Tulum’s crime hotspots.

The later stages of the project will see the system go online, coinciding with the city’s projected rise in visitor numbers.

Officially dubbed the Center for Command, Control, Communication, and Computing (C4), the groundbreaking new investment represents a watershed moment for law enforcement in Tulum.

With an initial cost of over 20 million pesos, the high-tech system will bolster safety for both travelers and residents.

The new C4 will allow for police and other law enforcement agencies to the city’s main streets and avenues in real time, thus deterring organized crime from affecting Tulum’s reputation.

Meanwhile, traffic safety is set to receive a major boost with officials being able to track law-breaking drivers, including taxis.

According to David Tah Balam, Tulum’s mayor, the C4 system will be critical in allowing officials to immediately activate safety protocols and deploy valuable law enforcement resources to crime-prone areas.

Although Tulum is generally regarded as a safe destination, in 2023, several serious types of crime remained at above-average levels in the coastal destination, including homicides and drug trafficking.

Tulum is among the destinations that is set to benefit most from the new Maya Train railway system.

The coastal hotspot will have its own train station located not too far from the city’s main sights.

The recent completion of the new Felipe Carrillo International Airport is another major addition to Tulum’s International connectivity.

With more than 10 airlines already announcing new flights to the massive airport, Tulum is gearing up for a record-breaking year for tourism.
