It’s no secret that Cancun is a favorite vacation destination for international travelers, especially for travelers from the U.S.
Around 60 percent of the total number of tourists who travel internationally to Cancun come from the United States.
So it’s no surprise that two travel industry giants, Google and Allianz, have named Cancun among the top 10 destinations for Americans this summer.
Here’s what they said, and some of the reasons why the destination is so popular with American travelers.
Google Vs. Allianz
Cancun may have made it to the top 10 on both the Google list of top destinations for Americans this summer, and the Allianz list, but where they fall on each list is different.
On Google’s list, Cancun came in at number 6.
On the list provided by Allianz Partners, although it shouldn’t be surprising, it is, the much-loved vacation destination topped the list, coming in at number 1.
Google’s Report On The Best Destinations To Visit In 2024
Google uses Google Flights data to generate its list of the top destinations for American travelers this summer.
They looked at searches for the dates between June 1st and August 31st, 2024, from travelers in the U.S.
Among those searches, Cancun was searched the 6th most by Americans, down from its recent standing as number 1, but still reaching the top 10.
Allianz Partners Rates Cancun # 1 International Destination For Americans
For the Allianz Partners report, the data was based on an analysis of over 6 million American traveler flight itineraries.
They analyzed trips booked between the dates of May 24 – September 3, 2024.
They found from the data that the top international destination for American travelers during that time was Cancun.
So why do Americans love Cancun so much?
Affordability Compared To Other Destinations
While Cancun is certainly not a cheap vacation destination, it might not be quite as pricey as some of the others you could choose.
Among the top three Mexican beach vacation destinations, it’s one of the most affordable and definitely more affordable than Los Cabos.
The great thing about Cancun is that it has such a wide variety of offerings in accommodations and activities, and flights are fairly inexpensive too.
The average nightly rate for a mid-range hotel is only around $130, whereas a five-star hotel averages about $551 a night, so you can make your Cancun vacation as inexpensive or extravagant as you want.
Wide Variety Of Activities And Attractions
One of the great things about Cancun is that, even though it’s known for its beaches, it isn’t just for beach lovers.
There is a huge variety of activities and attractions to enjoy in and around the destination.
Adventure activities, cultural and historical sites, water activities, wellness treatments and programs, nature reserves and other natural attractions, high-end shopping, and more can keep you busy during your Cancun vacation.
Extensive U.S. Connectivity
Perhaps more important than anything else is the fact that it’s so easy for Americans to travel to Cancun.
Nonstop flights are available from a total of 41 U.S. airports.
Planes travel between the United States and Cancun every day of the week, with 100s of flights arriving and departing each month.
Incredible All-Inclusives
Finally, in a roundup of Cancun’s most attractive features, the long list of incredible all-inclusives in the destination can not go without mentioning.
From mid-level to super luxurious, there is an all-inclusive for every personality, any group or solo traveler, and most importantly, for any budget.
This makes a Cancun vacation even more attractive and more accessible for all kinds of American travelers.
