Cancun is by no means one of the cheapest Mexican vacation destinations, but it isn’t the most expensive either.
Both luxury and affordable hotel options are available for travelers who visit Cancun, with more than 100 hotels and resorts to choose from.
But nightly rates are increasing due to the exploding popularity of the beach vacation destination, and there are some important things travelers need to know as Cancun hotel rates rise.
The Effects Of Higher Hotel Occupancy
Occupancy rates in Cancun rose 8 percent this summer compared to the same period last year.
That increase in demand also causes an increase in rates because hotels that have no trouble filling rooms will have no problem selling at higher rates.
This has led to a rate increase of up to 9 percent in Cancun hotels overall, with each class of hotel increasing rates by a different percentage.

Increases In 5 Star Hotel Rates
In the case of 5-star hotels, the rate has increased more than any other hotel class, increasing a full 9 percent during the summertime compared to 2022.
This puts the average rate for a 5-star hotel at $551 a night.
Some 5-star Cancun hotels that fall into this category and around this price range this winter are:

Increases In 4 Star Hotel Rates
The increase in rates in 4-star Cancun hotels isn’t quite as significant as in 5-star hotels, coming in at only 4 percent.
This puts the average nightly rate for a 4-star hotel at $311.
Hotels that cost right around or less than the average rate, that are rated 4-star hotels, include:

Increases In 3 Star Hotel Rates
There are a number of 3-star Cancun hotels that are actually pretty highly rated, although many are in downtown Cancun, and the average rate for 3-star hotels has only increased by 5 percent.
This puts the average nightly rate at around $129, and there are some great options for around that price.
Hotels that fall into the 3-star category and are priced for around this rate or lower include:

The Future Of Hotel Rates In Cancun
Tourism officials are predicting that Cancun Hotel rates will continue to rise.
This is due to the fact that the popularity of the destination continues to grow.
Additionally, tourism officials will continue to work on ways to promote Cancun and implement strategies that will further increase the rates.

Another reason you might see even higher rates during the coming months is the arrival of the winter season.
This is one of Cancun’s busiest seasons, as its largest markets, the U.S. and Canada, travel to Cancun during the winter to escape the cold.
Occupancy rates increase significantly and often the hotel rates rise as well.

One way to save money on your Cancun hotel is to book your stay during the week.
