New Rideshare Platform Allowed To Begin Operating At Cancun Airport

Last Updated

There are several different options for getting from Cancun Airport to your hotel when vacationing in the destination.

Among them are private transportation, shuttles, the ADO bus service, and taxis, but what you won’t be able to take to or from the airport is an Uber.

Despite Uber repeatedly failing to get permission to offer service at the airport, a new rideshare platform called inDrive is now being allowed to begin operating at Cancun Airport.

Let’s go over this new service that will be available and why Uber isn’t.

The InDrive Rideshare Platform

The inDrive rideshare or mobility platform is similar in some ways to other rideshare platforms you’ve used in the past.

Like the Uber app, inDrive allows you to book a ride with one of the drivers who offer their services on the platform.

The difference is that inDrive is allowed to operate at the airport because of its partnership with Caribe Taxi Express.

How To Use InDrive In Cancun

There are three simple steps to use inDrive to book a ride from Cancun Airport to your hotel or vice versa.

First, you can follow this link to download the inDrive app on your smartphone.

Next, you enter your trip into the app, along with how much you want to pay, and you wait for drivers to accept the offer.

Last, you choose one of the drivers that has either accepted your rate or made a counteroffer, and you wait to be picked up to be driven to your destination.

What InDrive Users Are Saying

InDrive has been reviewed by nearly 10 million users worldwide in the Google Play app alone.

Its rating is 4.7 out of five just in that app, so it’s pretty well-liked by users.

One pretty consistent complaint, though, is that drivers often request more than what users offer, but this is likely different region by region.

InDrive – The Company

InDrive was first launched in 2012.

Today, the platform is used in a total of 46 countries throughout the world.

Just recently,y the company completed its 5 billionth service since it launched just over a decade ago.

InDrive’s History In Mexico

In Mexico, inDrive operates in more than 58 cities.

It is the only rideshare platform to officially legally operate at an airport in the country, and Cancun Airport is the first airport in Mexico to allow the company to do so.

In Cancun, the company has over 300 vehicles registered to provide services to the millions of travelers who visit the destination each year.

How InDrive Differs From Uber

InDrive is undoubtedly very similar to Uber in several ways.

It offers fairer pricing than traditional taxis, rides can be booked through an app, and there are several security measures in place to protect users.

There is one major difference between the two services, though.

With Uber, you enter your pick-up and drop-off information and Uber shows you how much the ride is and a driver accepts the service.

With inDrive, you decide how much you’re willing to pay and you wait for a driver to accept the ride for that amount or make a counteroffer, which you can choose to accept or not.

Why Uber Can’t Operate At The Airport

The reason Uber is unable to operate at the airport is a bit obscure, but according to taxi drivers, it’s because the airport is federal property.

They feel that Uber has only been given permission to operate on state land.

Although Uber recently announced to its drivers that it could begin operating at the airport, the National Guard has still prevented it from doing so.

Now, inDrive gives you a similar option and an alternative to pricey taxis.
