Cancun and Tulum are two of the most popular vacation destinations in the Mexican Caribbean, but when it comes to female travelers visiting Mexico, they’re the most popular in the country.
According to a new report from the Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR), Cancun and Tulum are the top destinations preferred by female travelers.
Tulum tops the list with 59 percent of international female travelers preferring the destination, and Cancun with 53.7 percent.
Let’s take a look at why female travelers love these destinations so much.
Safety
One of the reasons female travelers love Cancun and Tulum is the relative safety of both destinations compared to other places in Mexico.
Both Cancun and Tulum prioritize safety to protect the millions of tourists who visit each year.
It’s not uncommon to see police and military officers patrolling busy tourist areas for just this reason, which undoubtedly makes female travelers feel safer.
Comfort
One of the best parts about any vacation is staying in luxury accommodations that offer comfort and the convenience of not having to lift a finger.
Both Cancun and Tulum are full of luxury hotels and all-inclusives that offer exactly this.
Female travelers can be confident that they can find the perfect hotel to suit their needs in either destination.
Hospitality
The “friendly approach to women” that both Cancun and Tulum offer is another reason the destinations are popular choices for female travelers.
Hotel staff in both destinations are known for providing superior hospitality.
Women visiting the destinations don’t have to worry about being discriminated against, which makes for a more enjoyable vacation.
Wellness
Another reason Cancun and Tulum are both great options for female travelers is the availability for wellness experiences, particularly in Tulum.
Both destinations have plenty of hotels and all-inclusives that have state-of-the-art spas.

Tulum even has an outdoor jungle gym that anyone can enjoy.
Adventure
There are few better places in the Mexican Caribbean for adventure than Cancun and Tulum.

Additionally, in both places, you can take a jungle tour, visit cenotes, enjoy water activities, and more.
Undoubtedly this is one of the things that draws female travelers to these destinations.
Culture
While Cancun is a bit more touristy than Tulum, both places have plenty of opportunities to explore the different cultures of the region.
There’s a rich history in the region of both Mexican and Mayan cultures.
Female travelers, and any traveler for that matter, can safely explore these cultures by visiting museums, archeological sites, Magic Towns, vibrant cities, and cultural performances.
Cancun itself has a Mayan Museum and several ruins to visit, and Tulum has one of the most important archeological sites in the region, and it’s situated on a seaside cliff.
Connectivity
What would an amazing vacation destination be if it wasn’t easy to get to, for females or any other type of traveler?
Cancun and Tulum are easy to get to thanks to the extensive connectivity.
You can fly nonstop to Cancun from 130 airports spread out between 28 countries.
The United States has the best connectivity, with direct flights available from a total of 43 airports.
While the new Tulum Airport doesn’t have as great of connectivity as Cancun, it is a new and growing airport.
Currently, it’s directly connected to 22 airports in five countries, 11 of which are in the U.S.
Additionally, you can always fly into Cancun and book a ticket for the Maya Train to get to Tulum too.
The extensive connectivity to the region is just another reason that Cancun and Tulum are great options for female travelers.
