The international search for an American tourist has seen a significant development this week, shifting the focus of the investigation away from South America and pointing directly toward the Mexican Caribbean. For the family of thirty-three-year-old Brittini Nicole Harper, the last several months have been filled with deep concern and uncertainty. Originally, it was believed she had gone missing in the mountains of Peru. However, local authorities and immigration officials have recently uncovered official travel records that clarify the timeline and location of her disappearance.

The recent updates provided by the Peruvian National Police shed light on Brittini’s movements and highlight the ongoing, dedicated efforts of her family to locate her.
The Initial Arrival in South America
The timeline of Brittini’s travels began in the Cusco region of Peru. According to the information provided to the authorities by her father, Mark Richard Harper, Brittini originally arrived in the historic city of Cusco on May 19, 2025. She traveled to the region accompanied by her pet husky, reportedly working remotely in the field of oriental medicine.
For roughly two months, she stayed in the area, choosing to live in a short-term rental property located in Urubamba, a scenic town nestled in the heart of the Sacred Valley. During this period, her travel plans appeared completely normal, and she maintained a typical routine for someone living and working abroad.

The Travel Disruption at the Airport
The situation changed significantly when she attempted to conclude her time in Peru. Her father explained to the local police that she had originally intended to travel onward to Colombia. However, when she arrived at the airport, she encountered a major issue regarding international pet travel regulations.
Airline staff informed Brittini that she could not board her scheduled flight because her dog did not have the required rabies vaccination certificate. Securing proper international health documentation for a pet can be a lengthy and highly strict process, often taking weeks to finalize. This unexpected bureaucratic hurdle left her unable to board her intended flight, forcing a sudden and major change to her travel itinerary.
Immigration Records Confirm a Route to Cancun

Fast forward to May of 2026. Having lost all direct communication with his daughter since February of 2026, Mark Richard Harper traveled directly to Cusco to search for her. On May 21, 2026, he officially filed a missing person report with the local Tourism Police. He spent days walking through the city, showing printed photographs of his daughter to residents and using an electronic translation device to ask for any information that might help find her.
In response to the report, the Peruvian National Police launched a formal investigation. By cross-referencing her passport information with official immigration databases and commercial airline flight manifests, they made a crucial discovery. The Commander of the Cusco Tourism Police confirmed that Brittini had not been in Peru for nearly a year.

Official flight records provided by Avianca Airlines, and corroborated by the National Superintendence of Migrations, showed exactly what happened after she was denied boarding for her flight to Colombia. On that very same day, July 31, 2025, she successfully boarded a different flight departing from the international airport in Lima. The official manifest indicates she traveled with a stopover in Bogota, Colombia, with her final destination recorded as Cancun, Mexico.
The Search Shifts to Mexico
While the authorities in Peru have concluded their specific portion of the investigation by confirming she legally and safely exited the country, the search for Brittini is far from over. The official border data places her safely in the Mexican Caribbean in the summer of 2025.
Given that her family remained in digital contact with her until February of 2026, it is understood that she spent several months living in Mexico before communication stopped. Adding to the situation, her father noted that her email account and online banking showed activity recently, suggesting she was the one performing those actions, but direct contact remains lost.
Investigation Case Facts
Her family is now working to trace her movements following her arrival in Cancun. This ongoing case underscores the serious realities of international travel and the vital importance of maintaining contact with loved ones while abroad.
