Hilton Opens First Hotel In The Cancun International Airport

The Most Recent Hilton Property In Quintana Roo Was Inaugurated On Tuesday

Cancun International Airport officially welcomed its first-ever hotel on Tuesday. The Hilton Garden Inn was inaugurated yesterday and is one of many new Cancun projects in the works for the globally renowned hotel chain.

The project has been in the works for several years but was delayed due to the onset of the pandemic as investment dried up. The hotel has an excellent location inside the airport grounds, offering traveling passengers an excellent accommodation choice as they move through Cancun. It will significantly help those passengers with extremely early arrivals or departures, saving them the pain of organizing transport from their hotel to the airport.

The property is a good size, holding 186 guest rooms, and announced that it is pet friendly. Each room will come furnished with workspaces and 55-inch TVs.

The hotel is situated by Terminal 2 of the airport, close enough for passengers to walk comfortably, although it is reported there will be a small shuttle for guests. It has all the amenities expected from the Garden Inn brand including a stunning restaurant draped in greenery and an outdoor pool for guests to relax before or after their flights. On top of this, the property hosts a well-stocked gym, business center, and room service.

Prices for one night in the Garden Inn range from around $129 for a basic double bed or queen room, up to full-sized suites for $177. These figures were taken from a randomly chosen date in mid-April and may fluctuate depending on dates.

The development will be welcomed by the airport which is facing a heavy dose of scrutiny thanks to problems with its immigration system. Thousands of passengers visiting the popular seaside resort town have found themselves waiting for as long as four hours after disembarking from their flights.

The Quintana Roo government has been scrambling to allocate new immigration officers to help smooth the process, but the same promise was made almost exactly a year ago when 100 new officers were supposedly sent to the airport.

The inauguration event appeared important enough for the Governor of Quintana Roo to attend as the guest of Honor. Carlos Joaquin spoke of his pleasure at the increased investment in the tourism sector and praised those involved for working on what will hopefully be an extremely beneficial project to the region.

But it’s not the only Hilton project affecting Cancun and Quintana Roo. At the end of last year, Hilton opened its new All-Inclusive resort, just outside of Cancun. The massive hotel features swim-up rooms, thirteen restaurants, and a host of high-end features. It’s been an immediate success for Cancun. Before that, the Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya was opened, also garnering great success over the past few months.

But Hilton isn’t stopping there. A 178 room Waldorf Astoria is opening close to the Hilton All-Inclusive later this year. The property has already been built and will be receiving its finishing touches as well as staffing assignments over the coming months.

Two more Hilton properties will follow that. One, huge 350 room Conrad by Hilton is set to be built and then a partner for Cancun’s All-Inclusive, the Tulum Hilton, will add a further 750 rooms. It’s expected that the massive hotel will be around just in time for the arrival of the Tulum Airport and Maya Train projects at the end of 2023.

Hilton’s investment in the region is a clear sign that the demand for Cancun is not likely to dissipate anytime soon. With over a billion dollars being plugged into their new hotels, tourists are going to be spoilt for choice if they have some semblance of brand loyalty.

Those hoping to visit Cancun in the near future should continue to keep on top of any restriction changes both in their home country and in Mexico.
