Officials are gearing up for the approaching opening date of the Tulum Airport, which is December 1st.
Travelers are undoubtedly getting excited about having this new option for traveling to the Mexican Caribbean.
Upon initial opening, though, only domestic airlines will be operating out of the airport, so Americans won’t be able to fly directly to Tulum Airport until next year.
Tulum Airport’s Opening
It’s true, the long-awaited Tulum Airport is still on schedule to begin operating on December 1st, but it will be much more like a soft opening than a full-blown inauguration.
According to officials, the first flights to be available will be domestic flights.
International flights will eventually be available to American travelers but not until a later date.

When U.S. Flights Will Be Available
While exact dates for when Americans will be able to fly into Tulum Airport, also known as Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, are not yet known, there is a planned time frame.
According to officials, it will be sometime in early 2024, and although they have not announced a date yet, one U.S. airline previously announced that flights would be available in March.
It remains to be seen when additional airlines will start scheduling flights to the new airport.

U.S. Airlines That Will Have Flights To Tulum
So far a number of U.S. airlines have announced that they will be operating out of Tulum Airport.
American Airlines just recently announced that flights to Tulum Airport will be available from three major U.S. cities initially in March.
Those cities are Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, and Miami.
Additionally, Spirit will offer service from Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and Delta will offer flights from Atlanta to Tulum.

First Airlines To Operate At The Airport
The first airlines that will operate at Tulum Airport will be domestic airlines with flights within the country.
ViVaAerobus will offer flights between all of the airports within the state of Quintana Roo, including Cancun.
Aeromexico will also have flights to Tulum from various Mexican cities upon initial opening.
More About Tulum Airport
Tulum Airport will have the capacity to serve more than 5 million travelers every year.
Estimates are that more than 30,000 flight operations will take place at Tulum Airport annually.
While this is nowhere near the 30 million plus that Cancun Airport sees every year, it’s enough to relieve some of the traffic that the much busier airport receives.
Tulum Airport Transportation
Just like at Cancun Airport, there will be a variety of transportation options for travelers who arrive at Tulum Airport.
Taxis will without a doubt be available for travelers, but if they are anything like they are in Cancun and other parts of the Mexican Caribbean, they’ll likely be expensive.
It’s also very likely that private transportation options will be available, which typically cost around the same as a taxi, maybe a little more.
Additionally, the ADO bus company recently announced that it will offer services at Tulum Airport as well, giving travelers an inexpensive option.
The most anticipated mode of transportation that will be available, though, is the Maya Train, which will have a station at the airport.
Three Great Reasons to Visit Tulum
