Cancun Airport Has Over 100 Nonstop Connections As Region Becomes Accessible Than Ever

Last Updated

Getting to Cancun has never been easier. It was reported this week by a local news agency that the amount of direct connections to the Mexican Caribbean has reached over 100, with a steady increase from January to November 2022. As it stands, a total of 115 cities across the globe now have direct flight routes to the three major airports in the Mexican Caribbean, with the biggest one being the Cancun International Airport.

This number means a 40% increase overall in flight routes to the region, which is still a significant surge despite the relatively slower upticks in flight availabilities recorded for Latin America and Canada.

While the end of 2022 and into 2023 will bring a number of route relaunches to everyone’s favorite vacation destination in Mexico, the flight connections to Cancun from cities across Canada throughout 2022 have lingered back to pre-pandemic numbers.

But now, Canadians are rested and ready to visit Cancun again for the 2023 winter season. We reported at the end of October that Canada will have a record number of flights to Cancun this winter, with Canadian travelers being able to choose between a total of 27 direct flight routes from cities coast to coast to take them down to Cancun.

12 Canadian Flight Routes Relaunched To Cancun, 8 Across Latin America

Among the newly relaunched direct flight routes, which were recorded by the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council according to the report, this includes 12 routes from Canada as well as 8 across Latin America, all of which were paused in 2020.

The report also stated that 15 nonstop flights from Canada to Cancun were available the first 9 months of 2022, which was a big jump from the 3 direct flights that were running in 2021 between Canada and Cancun when nation’s travel restrictions were tight.

So after three full winter travel seasons with a number of flight routes on pause, major and low-cost airlines like Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing, and Air Transat have finally renewed their popular flight routes to sunny Cancun.

While LATAM and Canada are a big market for Cancun, it’s no surprise that the United States remains the largest tourist market for the Mexican Caribbean. There are currently 36 cities across the U.S. with direct flight services to the region. And on the domestic front, there are currently 26 flight services available to Quintana Roo from cities across Mexico.

Europe Steadily Increasing Flights To The Mexican Caribbean

While Europe doesn’t have the amount of flight connections to Cancun as the U.S. and Canada, the local tourism market is hopeful for a big recovery.

Here’s an overview of the direct flight services from cities across Europe to Cancun, according to FlightConnections.com. Some flight routes are currently operating year-round while the others are seasonal routes for travelers eager to take a winter getaway.

Cancun International Airport To Record About 28 Million Passengers

The report also made the prediction that the Cancun Airport will end its successful 2022 year with recording approximately 28 million passengers. It was estimated back in September, when the airport recorded over 20 million passengers between the months of January and August that the tourist numbers by the end of 2022 would be approximately 26 million.
