Cancun Beach Named Among World’s Best By Tripadvisor

Okay, buckle up, beach fans! We’ve got some sun-tastic news coming straight out of Cancun. You know that feeling when your favorite local spot gets recognized on the world stage? Well, get ready to cheer!

Tripadvisor, the big kahuna of travel reviews and recommendations, dropped their “Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Beaches” list for 2025, and guess who made a sparkling appearance? None other than Cancun’s very own Playa Delfines!

That’s right, out of countless stretches of sand across the globe, our beloved Dolphin Beach (yep, that’s what ‘Delfines’ means!) snagged a spot among the elite. It’s like winning an Oscar, but for sand and waves! This isn’t just some random list; it’s based on millions of reviews and opinions from travelers like you and me over the past year. So, landing on this list means Playa Delfines is genuinely loved by the people who’ve actually dug their toes into its sand.

What Makes Playa Delfines So Awesome?

So, what’s the big deal about Playa Delfines? If you’ve been, you probably already know. If not, picture this: wide, wide stretches of soft, powdery white sand meeting that iconic turquoise Caribbean water. Unlike many other beaches in Cancun’s Hotel Zone that are lined wall-to-wall with resorts right on the sand, Playa Delfines offers a more open, expansive feel.

It’s famously known as “El Mirador” (The Lookout) for a reason. Perched slightly higher than some other parts of the Hotel Zone, it offers some seriously stunning panoramic views. You can see the waves rolling in, the different shades of blue water, and the coastline stretching out. Plus, it’s home to that sign – the giant, colorful “CANCUN” letters that you’ve definitely seen splashed all over Instagram. Getting a picture here is practically a Cancun initiation rite! Because it’s a public beach, it has a more local, laid-back vibe compared to some of the exclusive resort beaches.

Finding Your Slice of Paradise: Location, Location!

Alright, let’s get practical. Where exactly is this gem? Playa Delfines is located towards the southern end of Cancun’s main Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera). If you’re cruising down Boulevard Kukulcan, the main drag, keep an eye out around Kilometer 18 or 19. It’s super easy to get to. You can hop on the local R-1 or R-2 bus – they run constantly up and down the Hotel Zone and are incredibly cheap. Just tell the driver “Playa Delfines” or “El Mirador,” and they’ll know where to stop. Taxis are readily available too, of course. There’s a decent-sized parking lot if you’re driving, but it can fill up, especially on weekends.

Staying Right on the Action (Well, Almost!)

Now, here’s a key thing about Playa Delfines: part of its charm is that it isn’t jam-packed with hotels built directly onto the sand itself. This helps maintain that open, public feel. However, you definitely want to stay nearby to maximize your beach time, right?

While there aren’t resorts with loungers spilling directly onto Playa Delfines sand from their back door, there are fantastic options literally across the street or just a stone’s throw away, offering killer views and super easy access. Consider looking into:

  1. Iberostar Selection Cancun: This popular, family-friendly resort is very close, just slightly north. While it has its own beach area, you’re practically next door to Delfines.
  2. Seadust Cancun Family Resort: Located right across the boulevard from the general Playa Delfines area, offering easy access.
  3. Crown Paradise Club Cancun: Also situated very conveniently across the street, making a trip to El Mirador a breeze.

Booking one of these puts you in prime position to stroll over whenever the mood strikes, catch amazing sunrises, or easily pop back to your room. You get the stunning public beach experience of Delfines plus the amenities of a great resort nearby – best of both worlds!

What do you do once you’re there? Relax! Spread out your towel, soak up the sun, and listen to the waves. The water here can sometimes have stronger currents and waves than other Cancun beaches (it faces the open ocean more directly), so always pay attention to the flag warnings and swim safely. It’s great for playing in the surf! You’ll find free public palapas (those thatched-roof umbrellas) scattered around, but they’re first-come, first-served, so snag one early if you want guaranteed shade. And don’t forget that photo op with the Cancun sign!

The World’s Best Sands

While we’re rightly celebrating Playa Delfines, it’s cool to see who nabbed the absolute top spots globally on Tripadvisor’s 2025 list. This year, the gold medal went to Praia da Falésia in Portugal, followed by the stunning Spiaggia dei Conigli in Sicily, Italy, and rounding out the top three was La Concha Beach in San Sebastian, Spain. Pretty impressive company for our Cancun favorite to be keeping, right?

So, next time you’re planning a trip or just dreaming of turquoise waters, remember Playa Delfines. It’s got the views, the vibe, the sign, and now, another official badge of honor as one of the world’s best!
