Cancun Boat Tours To Be Canceled Ahead Of The Arrival Of Tropical Storm Sara

The end of Hurricane Season in the Mexican Caribbean is just around the corner, but the popular destinations in the region are not out of the woods yet.

It’s been a pretty active year, with several storms having at least some effect on Cancun and other vacation hotspots along the coast.

Now, another storm has developed, and despite not being projected to hit Cancun directly, it is expected to bring some bad weather.

Because of this, Cancun boat tours are set to be canceled ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Sara.

The Suspension Of Boat Tours Due To Bad Weather

Even though Tropical Storm Sarah is not projected to hit Cancun directly, it is expected to bring some not-so-great weather.

Cancun will likely get some windy days and waves will probably be higher than usual, making it difficult for boats to navigate the waters.

Sources say that due to this possibility, boat tours will be restricted for at least a few days.

The Projected Path Of Tropical Storm Sara

Although Tropical Storm Sara will not make landfall in Cancun it is projected to pass through the Yucatan Peninsula, but only as a tropical depression.

It will make landfall in Belize, south of the southern tip of Cancun’s home state of Quintana Roo.

It will then move through the southern part of the peninsula.

What The Passage Of The Storm Means For Tourists

So far, there have been no major official warnings for Cancun and no flight cancellations.

If you’re flying direct from the U.S. your travel plans will likely not be affected.

If the path changes or the storm strengthens, though, which is unlikely, it could affect some flights, but so far it isn’t looking like that’s going to happen.

If you have boat tours planned, though, you might have to find another way to occupy your time while visiting.

The Benefit Of Having Travel Insurance During Times Like These

Not everybody gets travel insurance when they take trips, but if you’ll be traveling during Hurricane Season, it’s a good idea to have it.

If the storm did result in canceled flights and/or hotel reservations, you might be able to get some of that money back.

It’s also great to have if a storm should lead to an emergency in which you need healthcare while visiting Cancun.

Hurricane Season In The Mexican Caribbean

Hurricane Season in Cancun lasts from June through November.

The tail end of the season is typically the most active, so it’s no surprise that Cancun has dealt with the effects of two storms in the last month.

This will likely be the last of the season, though.

How Often Cancun Gets Hit With A Hurricane

Cancun often deals with some effects from hurricanes and tropical storms but rarely gets directly hit by a hurricane.

Over the last 30 years, it’s only happened a couple of times.

Those storms were Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and Hurricane Gilbert in 1988, which were category 4 and 5, respectively, so it can happen, but it’s rare.

Best Time To Visit Cancun

Hurricane Season takes up a good half of the year in the Mexican Caribbean, but that leaves six months to visit that it isn’t Hurricane Season.

The busiest seasons for American travelers are winter and spring, and the weather is beautiful.

If you prefer a quieter vacation, though, the best time to visit is the fall, but you do still have to worry about the rare occurrence of a hurricane hitting.

Really, though, there is no bad time to visit Cancun, especially when the threat of storms has passed.
