Looking forward to a vacation getaway to Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean in the next couple of months? You are not alone.
In fact, resorts and hotels across the region are filling fast, and some of the top resorts already have limited rooms available with high room rates.
Here’s what we already know about reservations now that we are past the Memorial Day holiday and the unofficial start of the summer travel season.
Hotels Nearly 70 Percent Full
According to reports from the President of the Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, Jesús Almaguer Salazar, resorts in the Mexican Caribbean’s tourism hotspots are already between 65 and 70 percent full and that’s mostly just international reservations from the United States and Canada.
The hotel association is expecting some reservations from Colombia and Brazil to come in over the next couple of weeks which will further limit the availability of resort and hotel rooms in the area and push up prices further.
Those reservations would already guarantee a positive summer season for tourism for Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean.
Although, most resort and hotels will definitely welcome more visitors to come and enjoy a summer vacation getaway in the sun, sand and surf of Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean.
Cancun Ranking High in Travel Surveys
It seems like nearly every travel survey completed looking at the international travel plans of Americans this summer had Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean in the top ten of most popular international destinations.
It definitely shows up in the early reservations, as it looks like most travelers thought ahead this year and booked their reservations well in advance of their travel dates.
So far, the number of resort and hotel rooms, along with the vacation rental supply, has been able to keep up with the popularity of the Cancun and Mexican Caribbean for summer travel plans.
Cancun Deals Still Out There
While Kayak said Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean was actually a deal with sub $500 flights, that has remained the case with some flights from Los Angeles in July hovering even lower, right around $300 round trip as of the time of this article’s writing.
There were plenty of round trip flights in the $300s also from Phoenix, Minneapolis, New York and even Denver.
Some flights from Dallas were barely above $200 roundtrip for the summer, and others were less than $200 from Miami. Now that’s a summer vacation getaway deal!
There are also plenty of hotel deals as well.
As an example, mid-June was showing the SLS Cancun at less than $250 and the Westin Resort & Spa at less than $125 per night for a weekend stay in June. Even the popular Marriott Cancun all-inclusive resort was under $500 per night.
Time to Book is Now
Travelers looking to visit Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean need to move quickly to lock in some of these unusual summer deals on airfares and hotel rooms, which are still amazingly available.
With the popularity of Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean in surveys and rooms booking fast, these surprise and easy-to-find last-minute deals next month, for example, will not last long.
Travelers worried about the possibility of lower room rates in the future can always look to book cancellable reservations, which can be rebooked if room rates fall. However, they are already pretty low and unlikely to fall further.
One concern is that weather forecasters are predicting a more active than normal tropical weather season in the Mexican Caribbean.
Because of this potential threat to a vacation getaway, it is recommended to secure travel insurance which includes protection for tropical weather delays and cancellations.
