Cancun has a lot of hotels but the newest addition to the long list of luxury properties in the city will be the first one that focuses on long-stay tourists and shoppers. The new Hive Smart Hotel & Shopping isn’t located in the Cancun Hotel Zone but it will likely get plenty of attention even not being in the main tourist district because it has a lot to offer. Hive Smart Hotel was developed by G Hotels and provides a one-stop-shop kind of environment for visitors staying more than just a few days.

During the Covid-19 pandemic a lot more people had to work from home and many of those that could afford to do so fled to tropical paradises like Cancun to work from. After seeing that many of those individuals continued to work remotely from the Mexican Caribbean, G Hotels saw an opportunity to provide accommodations more suited to those staying in Cancun for months at a time, rather than just for a week or so.

The Hive Smart Hotel & Shopping features a number of options for lodging, dining, shopping, and services all in one place. Some of the establishments guests can utilize while staying at Hive include:

  • Victoria Flowers
  • Seven Eleven
  • Deline Boutique
  • Batta Sushi
  • Flavor Cup
  • Entre Fuegos
  • Restaurante Tahini
  • Face Bar
  • New Beginning Nail Spa

In addition to the various shopping and dining spots located within Hive, there is also a co-working space and a wellness center. The combination of everything provided within the Hive Hotel property works to bring guests a place where they have everything they need to work while on vacation but still feel like they are getting away from everyday life. It is a perfect mix of luxury and functionality for extended vacation travelers.

The Hive Hotel & Shopping property is located close to the airport, in a more urban part of Cancun. While it is not in the Cancun Hotel Zone it is not far from everything that the city has to offer. It is:

  • 30 minutes from the beaches.
  • 20 minutes from the convention center.
  • 10 minutes from major shopping centers.
  • 10 minutes from the Hotel Zone.
  • 10 minutes from the airport.

The hotel will have rooms and suites with rates ranging from around $70 – $120 including a continental breakfast, which doesn’t sound bad considering the extensive list of amenities available. The low end of that seems pretty affordable for those planning to stay in Cancun long-term, especially considering what it would cost to stay in the Hotel Zone. As of right now, there is only one other hotel in the area, so for those looking for a long-term, lower-priced hotel away from the tourist area, there are not a lot of options.

According to reports, the Hive Hotel complex took an estimated 10 million dollars to build and it will provide a large number of jobs for Cancun residents. Estimates show that altogether it will create more than 200 jobs, with about 150 of those being direct jobs and another 85 being indirect jobs.

Many tourists visit Cancun for its spectacular beaches and exciting Hotel Zone but those that visit and plan to stay for a while may be looking for something a little quieter and with more home-like amenities. The Hive Hotel & Shopping complex provides that without skimping on the luxury options that travelers so often want. It seems like the ideal destination for long-stay tourists who want to feel like they are on vacation but still be able to work and carry on their day-to-day lives.
