KLM’s New Amsterdam Flight Has Finally Landed In Cancun

KLM Royal Dutch Airline’s first-ever direct flight to Cancun from Amsterdam has officially landed on Mexican Caribbean soil.

Just under 300 passengers of German, Swedish, Dutch, French, Polish and Spanish descent have arrived in Cancun on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft from the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. The Cancun International Airport welcomed this long-awaited flight on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021 with open arms.

Amongst the group happily awaiting their arrival was the director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, Darío Flota Ocampo, Municipal authorities as well as the ambassador of the Netherlands in Mexico, Wilfred Mohr.

KLM Royal Dutch Airline has been offering a daily direct flight from Amsterdam to Mexico City for quite some time now and with this new flight schedule to Cancun, Guilhem Mallet, the CEO of KLM in Mexico has expressed in a recent interview his excitement for this forward momentum in providing more options for travelers.

“This reinforces KLM’s position as one of the most important European airlines operating in the Mexican market, both for business and tourism trips. This destination is strategically located as an entry point to the Yucatan Peninsula, one of the most important regions of the American continent. We are very excited that this inaugural flight to such an important destination has sustainable aviation fuel, as it is a clear example of KLM’s commitment to Mexico and to Sustainability.”

As The Cancun Sun previously reported, this new flight schedule from KLM is scheduled to provide multiple direct flights from Amsterdam per week.

Congratulations were in order as the first of many more flights arrived. The ambassador of the Netherlands in Mexico, Wilfred Mohr has extended his well-wishes for this new Amsterdam-Cancun route.
“It is good to note that the direct air link between the Netherlands and the Yucatan Peninsula is reactivated. This will further strengthen the excellent bilateral relations between the Netherlands and Mexico,” Mohr shared.

KLM has made numerous adjustments to its flight availabilities for the Caribbean and Latin America in response to the ever-changing travel situation as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic. These changes include adjustments to flight schedules, onboard services as well as cleaning protocols.

Airlines Passenger Experience Organization (APEX) has recently given KLM “Diamond Status” on top of their 5-star customer service rating. Part of this status was awarded because of their innovation amid this global crisis.
