Cancun’s latest exciting resort, the Riu Palace Kukulkan, is set to open just next week. The new development, which will be the brand’s third hotel in the region, will be the latest in a glittering lineup of stunning hotels to open its doors to the masses in the past few months. When it opens next weekend, the hotel will leave travelers even more spoiled for choice when visiting the world’s most in-demand vacation destination – and just in time for what is set to be a record-breaking travel season for Cancun.
With hotel bookings in the Mexican Caribbean set to reach max occupancy level and sell out in the coming weeks, travelers will have to act fast to become amongst the first to stay there, as options for hotels in Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and beyond are becoming increasingly slim. Here’s a look at what travelers can expect from the Riu Palace Kukulkan, plus a roundup of other new hotels that have recently opened their doors over the past few months.
Riu Palace Kukulkan Opening – What Travelers Should Know
In what may seem to be a case of another week, another hotel here in Cancun, it’s clear that the Riu Palace Kukulkan is set to be far from just another hotel but a significant contender to some of the more-established local favorites. The third such Riu development on the Costa Mujeres, the Riu Palace Kukulkan is the latest in its Palace brand of accommodations – a brand that has become synonymous with class, luxury, and elegance – and this latest endeavor from Riu is set to be no different when it opens on November 26th.

Situated in the city’s main hotel zone, the Riu Palace Kukulkan is set just in front of the beach, giving travelers easy access to the city’s most famous attraction and a location that will be the envy of other hotels in the region. The resort will feature more than 400 superior category rooms, making it a sizeable development, and is an adults-only resort – perfect for those whose idea of a vacation isn’t being surrounded by noisy children.
As one would expect, the hotel has top-quality amenities that are bound to put it on the map. As well as being located on the beach, the Riu Palace Kukulkan also boasts four swimming pools, including a swim-up bar, as well as a sun terrace, and a range of exciting watersport options that guests can take advantage of. There’s also a gym for those who enjoy getting a sweat on whilst on vacation, as well as a spa for those who want to do the complete opposite.
As a 24-hour all-inclusive resort, guests can look forward to a stunning array of dining options on site. In addition to a full buffet breakfast every morning, the hotel also features five different eateries on site, including à la carte restaurants specializing in Japanese, Mexican and Italian food – as well as live cooking shows – making it a foodies paradise.
Perhaps most interesting is the resort’s roll-out of its “Elite Club” option for guests. For those who wish to pay a little extra, a new world of add-ons and benefits will be granted, upgrading their stay from a good one to a great one. Such benefits include:
- Better views from their room
- A personalized check-in and check-out experience with a dedicated separate line
- Premium drink options at the resort’s sports bar
- Late check out
- A welcome gift with a letter signed by the hotel manager
- A welcome bottle of wine or cava
- An upgraded selection of drinks and snacks in the minibar
- A bathroom package with aromatherapy products, bathrobes, and slippers
The Riu Palace Kukulkan is not the only hotel to open in Cancun this winter. Hilton recently added to its Mexican Caribbean portfolio with the opening of its Waldorf Astoria hotel, whilst Royalton is set to open the Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun in just a few weeks. The construction of hotels will also continue into the new year, with a new Secrets resort set to open in early 2023.
