New Secrets Resort Opening Near Cancun This Winter

There are a lot of hotels in the Cancun area but the new Secrets resort opening near the popular tourist destination this winter is going to be a very unique property.  The Secrets Marina will be built in Puerto Morelos in early 2023, a project that was already in the planning stages before the pandemic brought everything to a halt.  According to Enrique Villanueva, Director of Development for the company in charge of the project, the land has already been purchased and they recently received their environmental impact approval.

Puerto Morelos is located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen but is much different from its highly popular, busier counterparts.  The seaside village is characterized by its old Mexican charm and its resemblance to a small fishing village.  It takes about 45 minutes to get there from Cancun, so those that wish to visit Puerto Morelos would fly into Cancun International Airport.

The development company in charge of the new Secrets resort, Pulso Inmobiliario, owns a number of other properties in the area as well.  All of these resorts are part of the AMR Collection and are branded as either Secrets, Breathless, or Dreams resorts.  Included in those owned by the company is the Dreams Natura Resort & Spa, where celebrity couple Scheana Shay and Brock Davies from Vanderpump Rules recently got married.

The wedding took place on August 23rd and the venue was magical, with a platform over a pool overlooking the Caribbean Sea for the couple to stand on as they exchanged their vows. The Dreams Natura property features 12 different wedding venues for couples to choose from.  And if the luxurious resort is any indication of what the newest addition to the development company’s portfolio will offer, travelers visiting Puerto Morelos can expect another fantastic option for their accommodations.

This new property will be on the level with other Secrets branded hotels but it will look quite different from others that are part of the brand.  Designed by architect Nuncio Di Santis, the building is going to be marina-themed, with elements of it resembling modern boats.  The hotel is also going to be completely sustainable, with a self-sufficient water system and highly economical energy-saving technology.

The new Secrets Marina will be one of hundreds of hotels in the Riviera Maya area, with new brands and properties being added all the time.  The large number of all-inclusive resorts in Cancun is one of the things the popular vacation destination is known for.  Just over the last two years at least 11 new hotels and resorts have been built in the area, with more on the way this year and next year.

Puerto Morelos Toruist Numbers Still Low

Secrets Marina is going to have a total of 407 rooms designed with the “boat” theme, which Mr. Villanueva does not really elaborate on. Other than that, there is little information about what the property will look like or what kind of amenities it will have, but if it keeps in line with other properties operating under the same brand you can expect it to be sufficient for even the most discerning travelers’ needs. We can expect more information to come out over the next few months, at which time we can provide an update on the property.

Mr. Villanueva mentions that the property has already been purchased but does not pinpoint where it is, other than being in Puerto Morelos. In a village so small it should be very apparent when work starts where it will be. For now, all we can do is wait for the next great resort to make its home in the Riviera Maya region.

This sucks. Another place for people that really do not want to leave home and choose a place that is exactly the same as all the others.

Bad food and mediocre service
