New resorts are opening in the Riviera Maya all the time, and some existing resorts go through periodic changes to improve the guest experience.
This is the case with one luxury resort near Cancun that is unveiling a massive new renovation.
The Fairmont Mayakoba, located in a gated community near Playa del Carmen, just completed a multi-million dollar project that has completely transformed the already popular AAA Five Diamond Resort.
Renovated Rooms, Suites, and Casitas
A total of 401 accommodations at Fairmont Mayakoba have been renovated. Accommodations that were remodeled include the Deluxe Casitas, the Signature Casitas, and the Beach Area Casita Suites.
All of them are decorated in a simple, modern decor that blends with the outdoor environment that surrounds them and gives the sense of bringing the outdoors in.

Overhauled Restaurants And New Dining Options
Tauro, a fine dining steak house, was completed back in 2021, but two more restaurants were added with this last round of renovations.
La Laguna is an outdoors-inspired concept, with an outdoor seating area that overlooks the Mayakoba lagoon canals.
Bassano is a casual Italian restaurant that has a laid-back setting and features an outdoor pizza oven and bar.
A cafe, Cafe Maya, was also added and is a traditional cafe concept.

Fairmont Mayakoba has three beach pools and a main pool that sits at the center of the property.
One of the property’s pools is adult-only, and there is a children’s pool on the property as well.
The main pool is the one most recently renovated, though the others were recently overhauled as well, back in 2021.

New Beach Club
The new beach club at Fairmont Mayakoba, Maykana Beach Club, is perhaps the best upgrade to the resort property of all.
It has its own infinity pool and features seaside terraces with sweeping ocean views, luxurious private cabanas, and fire pits for those cool nights.
The new Maykana Beach Club also features five additional dining options, each with a unique concept.

Maykana Dining Options
The new Maykana Beach Club dining options are each unique in their styles of cuisine and their atmosphere. Each also represents a different natural element. They include:
- Brisas – An open-air concept restaurant with a Mediterranean-influenced menu. It sits on a terrace overlooking the breathtaking Mexican Caribbean and represents the element of air.
- Aqua – A Latin-inspired outdoor dining venue that features a wood fire grill and craft cocktails. It is in a stunning setting amidst a group of private pool cabanas and represents the element of water.
- Fuego – A grill restaurant concept inspired by Tulum and an ancestral grill method. It’s located in a beautiful outdoor setting and represents the element of fire.
- Gaia – The signature restaurant of the Maykana Beach Club, Gaia represents the element of earth. It features a fresh local seafood-based menu that also includes fresh seafood from around the world as well.
- Cielo – An adults-only lounge with sunset views and an upbeat atmosphere. The venue represents the element of aether, known as the fifth element in some cultures.

Would highly recommend the resort and suggest getting all inclusive experience.@mayakoba is very exclusive area, has several hotels together behind security. A lot of celebrities vacation there. While it’s so exclusive, it makes it challenging to get out to eat somewhere else. Eating at the resort can get very expensive, that’s why I highly recommend paying for all inclusive.

The Future Of Fairmont Mayakoba
The Fairmont Mayakoba also made improvements to common areas like the lobby and reception areas, as well as to the existing kid’s club located on the property.
A second kids club was also added. Additional remodels, and upgrades are planned for the near future.
The renovations for the spa and fitness areas are planned for May 15 – December 2023, and renovations to the meetings and convention areas are set to begin at the end of June and be completed by December 2023.
