Why All Roads (and Investments) Lead to Cancun

So, why is all the focus on our corner of the world? According to a new “Hotel Investor Intentions” survey by the consulting firm CBRE, beach resorts remain the single most attractive type of property to invest in, and major hotel chains are overwhelmingly optimistic about the future of tourism in this region.

This confidence is fueled by you, the traveler. The demand for Cancun and the Riviera Maya has remained incredibly resilient, with a projected 4% annual growth in passenger numbers. That translates to an expected 32 million additional travelers visiting Mexico by 2030, and a huge portion of them will be landing right here at Cancun International Airport (CUN).

This massive influx of investment ensures that the area’s world-class tourism infrastructure will continue to evolve, offering visitors the latest in luxury and innovation.

A Staggering Level of Growth

To put this boom in perspective, Quintana Roo now has a staggering 135,961 hotel rooms across nearly 1,500 hotels. That represents a 9.2% growth in just the last few years.

The pace is so rapid that Bernardo Cueto Riestra, the head of the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat (Sedetur), has stated that the state is on track to match Las Vegas in its total number of hotel rooms within the next five years. It’s a clear sign that the Mexican Caribbean is cementing its place as one of the most important and dynamic tourist destinations on the planet.
