New Flights Announced To Cancun and Cozumel

An increase in arrivals as well as new routes to the Cozmuel and Cancun is a positive sign that the recovery of Mexican Caribbean tourism continues to be strong. Here are all of the latest flight announcements.

New Flights For Cancun and Cozumel

Starting on May 8th 2021, United Airlines will have a new route aboard a Boeing 737-900 headed from Los Angeles to Cozumel with scheduled arrivals on Saturdays.

The Denver – Cozumel route that returned in November 2020 for one flight per week will be increased to four flights per week arriving on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning on May 9th 2021.

With the upcoming arrival of the Iberojet flight from Madrid in July, Isla Cozumel will then have direct connection with Europe.

New flights from a Colombian born Airline, Viva Air will bring in three flights per week from Medellin – Cancun in an Airbus 320-type aircraft starting June 2nd 2021.

Cancun has 42 flights connecting with the United States and Frontier Airlines announced three new weekly flights from Dallas will be available as of June 10th 2021.

At the end of May Orbest from Iberjet will implement the weekly Sunday route from Lisbon – Cancun that will increase to two flights per week sometime in June.

Wamos Air will also fly once per week, on Sundays from Madrid – Cancun. Overall this shows a promising increase in air traffic with European countries.

A fresh face to the Mexican Carribean airways, Level Airlines will begin their first ever weekly route to Cancun from Barcelona in an Airbus 330-200 aircraft which can hold up to 314 passengers and will operate from July 2nd 2021 – August 28th 2021.

Austrian airlines announced that in late October they will implement an old route they stopped flying in 2006, This Thursday and Sunday flight will be headed to Cancun from Vienna.


Wingo Airlines plans to bring in an additional flight from Medellin to Cancun on Tuesdays to complement their pre-existing Thursday and Sunday flight schedule they began in March 2021. This airline has also been flying from Bogota to Cancun since October.

From June 2020 – February there have been a total of 4,292,049 people arriving in the Mexican Caribbean via air; 2,314,601 domestic passengers and 1,997,448 international passengers. This information was collected by the Strategic Planning area of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ).
