A new contender has officially tossed its sombrero into the ring for winter sun travel. Porter Airlines, the carrier celebrated for its refined service and “actually enjoying economy” approach, is making a bold pivot south. The airline is charting a new course directly for Mexico’s turquoise waters, announcing its first-ever flights to the sun-drenched paradise of Cancun.

This is a major strategic shift for Porter, an airline that built its reputation connecting Canadian and U.S. cities. The move signals a new era for the company and gives Canadian travelers a sophisticated new option for their annual winter escape. For those tired of the usual budget carrier chaos, the idea of starting a beach vacation with complimentary wine in a real glass is a welcome game-changer. This expansion isn’t just a new route; it’s Porter throwing down the gauntlet, betting that travelers want a better flight experience on their way to the beach.

When and Where You Can Go
The new service to Cancun will roll out from three key Canadian cities, timed perfectly for the peak winter getaway season. Get your calendars ready, because you could be sipping a margarita on the beach while your neighbors are still debating who has to shovel the driveway.

For those in the Greater Toronto Area, the wait is almost over. Daily flights from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) are set to take off starting November 5, 2025.
Travelers from the nation’s capital are also in luck. Flights from Ottawa International Airport (YOW) will launch on December 17, 2025, operating three times a week, making a mid-week or weekend escape easier than ever.

And for those in Southern Ontario looking to skip the Toronto traffic, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) will join the fiesta on December 17, 2025, with four weekly flights heading to the Mexican paradise. This is a fantastic new option for those who prefer the speed and convenience of a regional airport.
The Plane: Say Goodbye to the Middle Seat
Perhaps the best part of this announcement is the aircraft Porter will be using for these southern journeys. All flights to Cancun will be on their new, state-of-the-art Embraer E195-E2 jets. What does this mean for you? Well, for starters, say goodbye to the dreaded middle seat forever. The E195-E2 features a comfortable two-by-two seating configuration across the entire plane, so you are guaranteed to only ever have a window or an aisle seat.

The perks don’t stop there. Porter is doubling down on its famous passenger experience. Even in economy, you can expect their signature complimentary beer and wine served in real glassware, alongside a selection of premium snacks. It’s that touch of class that makes the journey feel like part of the vacation. The new jets also boast free, fast Wi-Fi for all passengers, so you can stream movies, finish up some work, or make your friends jealous with in-flight selfies as you head toward the coast.

This expansion marks a significant milestone for Porter Airlines. By branching into the sun-and-sand market, they are offering a clear choice: you can just fly to your vacation, or you can start your vacation the moment you get on the plane.
