Cancun and the rest of Quintana Roo are reporting the lowest hospitalizations rates in Mexico due to Covid-19. The Governor has announced the entire state of Quintana Roo including Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum will remain at a ‘Green” epidemiological level for the week of November 22nd to the 28th.
The ‘Green’ epidemiological is the lowest warning level for Covid-19 but the state Governor Carlos Joaquín is telling people to be diligent with their preventative measures and to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
“We must work every day to ensure that we offer safety, peace and tranquility to Quintana Roo families and to all of our visitors, who are very important to us,” Carlos Joaquín stated.
This will be the fourth straight week in the decline of Covid-19 cases which comes at a perfect time as the state prepares for the busiest tourism season of the year. Over 8 million tourists are expected to arrive in Quintana Roo over the next 4 months. A majority of them will come from the United States then followed by Canada.
Hospitalizations Decline in Quintana Roo
Governor Carlos Joaquín reported that only 3% of all Covid-19 beds are currently occupied and only 2% of beds with ventilators are occupied.
4 Weeks of Decreasing Cases in Tourism Hotspots
Travelers with upcoming holiday trips to Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum can look forward to low infections rates currently. Benito Juárez where Cancun is located recorded a 58% decline in cases week over week.
Solidaridad where Playa Del Carmen is located registered a drop of 47% while Tulum showed a 100% decrease in positive Covid-19 cases.
The only areas of Quintana Roo currently showing an increase in cases are Lázaro Cárdenas which is up 4% and Isla Mujeres up 49%.
Quintana Roo Continues Preparing For High Season
Just two days ago, Governor Carlos Joaquín announced that Quintana Roo will be home to over 1400 permanent soldiers who primary purpose will be to protect tourists From Cancun to Tulum.
As well, the state has already installed 2200 cameras in tourism hotspots for real-time surveillance.
After a 7 year break, the first Aeroflot plane direct from Russian landed in Cancun to water cannon salute. Tourism from Russia is up almost 60% in Cancun after strict entry requirements in countries like Bali have prevented them from visiting.
Over 500 on Saturday bringing almost 100,000 tourists to Cancun in a single day.

I live here in Cancun Centro. This part of Cancun is rather good about Covid safety, but go just a bit further and covid runs rampant among the poor. We know that the government #'s are fabrications. If you choose to come here, wear your mask and keep a safe distance between yourself and others. Tourists from high covid countries are coming here to party and play. If you fail your covid test, you will be locked in your room for at least 5 days. It will NOT be an extended vacation. Food will be left outside your door. Please enjoy your visit to my adopted home, take precautions, and stay well.
