📅 Plan Your Full Trip Here

Here are the top 5 things you need to know before you board that plane.

1. Sargassum: It’s (Mostly) Gone

Cancun Sargassum Season Ending Early According To On The Ground Reports

The good news? We are statistically at the “lowest” point of the year for sargassum. The golden rule of winter usually holds true: the beaches are cleaner now than they will be all year. However, we have seen some weird patterns this season. Just like in December, we are seeing the “odd day” where a random influx hits the shore out of nowhere. You can also check your hotel’s sargassum levels here.

Boots On The Ground Advice: Do not bank 100% of your vacation on the ocean. If you wake up and the water is brown, pivot immediately.

  • Reserve a pool chair early. If the beach is bad, the pool deck becomes prime real estate.
  • Go inland. This is the perfect time to tour a cenote. They are freshwater, sheltered, and completely immune to seaweed.

2. The Weather App Is Lying To You

If you look at your weather app right now, it probably shows a little rain cloud icon for every single day of your trip. Ignore it. February weather is actually perfection. We are talking about low humidity, sunny days, and cooler nights that actually let you sleep without the AC blasting.

Boots On The Ground Advice:

  • The “Rain” is a lie: When it does rain in February, it is usually a 10-minute burst that cools things down, and then the sun comes roaring back. Do not cancel plans based on an app.
  • Pack a sweater: I’m serious. The evenings can get breezy, especially if you are dining by the ocean. You will regret only bringing tank tops.
  • Check the pool temp: The air is warm, but the water can be “refreshing” this time of year. Make sure your resort has heated pools before you book.

3. The Crowds: Welcome To The “Chair Wars”

It isn’t the absolute pandemonium of New Year’s Eve, but do not mistake February for “Low Season.” It is still very busy. The biggest friction point? The pool deck. You are going to see people playing the “towel game” at 6:00 AM. It is annoying, but it is the reality of high-occupancy resorts.

Boots On The Ground Advice:

  • Be patient: Service might be a tick slower than usual. Relax. You are on vacation.
  • The Strategic Reserve: You have two choices. Get up early and claim your spot, or pay for peace. I personally recommend renting a cabana for a day or two. It guarantees you shade, service, and the ability to sleep in past sunrise without stress.

4. The Airport: Baggage Delays And The Uber Crackdown

This is the most critical logistical update for February 2026. First, the baggage claim situation. It is averaging 30 minutes to 1 hour to get your bags. The airport is moving volume, and the ground crews are maxed out.

Second, and most importantly:

Transportation. Do not think you can just land and call an Uber to the curb. Uber is banned from picking up at the airport. Recently, enforcement on this has become stricter than ever. The National Guard and local authorities are not playing games with this. If you try to “sneak” an Uber pickup, you are risking being stranded on the curb with your luggage while the driver gets fined or towed.

Boots On The Ground Advice:

  • Team Carry-On: If you can possibly do it, skip the checked bag. You will walk straight off the plane and beat hundreds of people to the exit.
  • Pre-Book Private Transport: Do not leave this to chance. Book a certified private transfer before you fly. You want a guy with a sign waiting for you, not a negotiation battle with a taxi shark or a cancelled Uber ride.

5. Prices Are Higher (But You Deserve It)

You are going to notice the menu prices and the room rates are up. February is peak demand, and the pricing reflects that. Don’t let it ruin your vibe.

The Verdict: Plan ahead. Know what you are going to spend. Budget for the cabana, budget for the private transfer, and then stop worrying about the money. You worked hard for this. It is okay to relax and enjoy the break. The sun is shining, the humidity is low, and the mezcal is pouring. You deserve this.
