Cancun is becoming so popular as a vacation destination that new hotel properties are opening every few months to keep up with demand.
Some of the existing hotels are also being updated in order to offer the same level of service and amenities being provided by the new hotels.
This includes the iconic Ritz-Carlton Cancun hotel, which is undergoing a massive renovation as it transitions to the Kempinski Hotel Cancun.
Formerly Known As The Ritz-Carlton Cancun
Prior to the Ritz-Carlton Cancun being taken over by Kempinski, the popular hotel operated in Cancun for nearly 30 years.
In fact, the Ritz-Carlton was the Cancun Hotel Zone’s first luxury hotel.
The property is situated in a prime spot in the Hotel Zone, with a wide-spanning white sand beach bordered by the stunning azure blue Caribbean Sea.

The Transformation To Kempinski Hotel Cancun
Kempinski Hotels took over the Ritz-Carlton Cancun in the fall of 2022 and since has already made some changes to the property and operations.
During the transition, the company temporarily renamed the hotel, calling it the Grand Hotel Cancun before changing it to the Kempinski Hotel Cancun.
The hotel is not only the first Kempinski property in Cancun but in all of Mexico.

The Kempinski Brand
Kempinski is a well-known European hotel brand with properties in Dominica and Cuba as well.
The Kempinski Hotel Cancun is the first of the brand’s properties to be located in North America.
The company and the brand date back all the way to 1897 and continue to grow and open properties throughout Europe and beyond, boasting nearly 80 five-star hotel and resort properties.

The Kempinski Hotel Cancun property boasts 363 elegant rooms and suites, ranging from over 400 square feet to more than 2,400, all facing the Caribbean Sea.
The property also features a spa, a fitness center with steam rooms and a sauna, a beauty salon, and beautiful pools.
Additionally, there are six restaurants and bars on the hotel property.

Renovations That Are Part Of The Transformation
While some changes have already been made and we’re recently unveiled, more renovations are in progress, according to Kempinski Hotels.
So far, the tennis court has been renovated, two pickleball courts have been installed — all complimentary to use for guests — and half of the rooms have already been refurbished.
Other renovations that are in the works or coming in the near future include refurbishing all of the hotel’s suites, updates to the property’s restaurant menus, and renovating the culinary center.
