One of the most popular adults-only properties in the exclusive Playa Mujeres enclave is back online, and it looks completely different.
Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort has officially reopened following a massive top-to-bottom renovation. For years, this resort was a fan favorite because of its location—tucked away in a private gated community north of Cancun—but American travelers had started to whisper that the rooms felt a little outdated compared to newer neighbors.

Hyatt (the parent company) clearly heard the feedback. They didn’t just slap a fresh coat of paint on the walls; they overhauled the guest rooms, moved the lobby, and built entirely new structures.
Here at The Cancun Sun, we cut through the press release fluff to tell you exactly what changed, what costs extra, and if the new price tag is worth it for your 2026 vacation.
The New Vibe: “Coastal” Instead of “Colonial”
If you visited Secrets Playa Mujeres in the past, you remember dark wood furniture and warm, heavy tones. That is gone.
The 424 suites have been redesigned with what they call a “contemporary coastal aesthetic.” In plain English, this means the trendy beige, cream, and natural wood look that is dominating Instagram right now. It makes the rooms feel bigger, brighter, and cleaner.

Key Upgrades:
- Moved Check-In: The lobby has been relocated closer to the guest rooms. You no longer have to trek as far to get your key.
- New Lobby Bar: The Rendezvous bar—usually the social hub of any Secrets resort—has moved to the former main lobby space to open up the flow.

The “Preferred Club” Upsell: Is It Worth It?
This is where the renovation money really went. Secrets is doubling down on its VIP tier.
They constructed a brand new two-story building exclusively for Preferred Club guests.
- Floor 1: A dedicated private check-in area (skip the main line).
- Floor 2: An exclusive oceanfront restaurant.
They also built a new Private Beach Club strictly for these guests. In Playa Mujeres, where the beach is the main selling point, having a roped-off section with better chairs and waiter service is usually the difference between a “good” trip and a “great” one.

The Secret Weapon: The “Double Dip”
The biggest selling point of this resort hasn’t changed, but it’s worth repeating. When you stay at Secrets Playa Mujeres, you get full access to Dreams Playa Mujeres right next door.
While Secrets is adults-only, Dreams is family-friendly.
- The Strategy: You sleep and relax at the quiet, adults-only Secrets. When you get bored of the food options or want a livelier atmosphere, you walk (or take a golf cart) next door to Dreams to use their restaurants, bars, and waterslides.
- The Reality: It essentially doubles the size of your resort for free. Just remember, you will see kids if you cross the border into Dreams.

Important Warning: The Spa Isn’t Ready
Before you book your flight for next week, there is one major catch. The press release confirms that the world-class Secrets Spa will not open until mid-February.
If a massage is a non-negotiable part of your vacation, you need to wait a few weeks or look at other options until the construction crews clear out.
The Bottom Line
The reopening of Secrets Playa Mujeres puts it back in the heavyweight class. The rooms finally match the price point, and the new Preferred Club areas fix the overcrowding issues at the pool.
If you are a golfer (it’s surrounded by a Greg Norman course) or a couple looking for a quiet beach with the option to party next door, this is a solid booking for 2026.
