Things are getting more expensive these days, no matter where you go, and that includes vacation destinations like Cancun.

Hotels fall into the category of price increases too, but there are ways to make your Cancun vacation more affordable. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), hotel rates are among the top 10 prices that have increased the most in the last year in Cancun.

Cancun’s Rising Prices

Hotel rates in Cancun during the first half of June this year compared to the same period last June, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, have increased by 10.44 percent.

While this isn’t a huge amount, those numbers add up quickly.

However, these are the top 6 ways to save amid Cancun’s rising hotel prices.

Look For Deals Directly On Hotel Sites

You would be amazed at how often hotels and resorts offer deals, especially for stays for more than just a day or two.

Sometimes you’ll find discounts in the form of percentages off; other times it might be a free day with the purchase of three or four days, and some resorts will give you freebies, like complimentary breakfast or hotel transportation.

For example, Live Aqua Beach Resort is currently offering up to 50 percent off for its summer sale, with hotel transportation included.

Savings like these can make your vacation significantly more affordable.

Travel On Weekdays

Many people travel on weekends because they work 9-5 jobs and have weekends off, but if there is a way you can travel on weekdays, you can save a lot of money.

Consider this, for a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday stay in July, the rate for three nights at Live Aqua Beach Resort on Booking.com comes to $2,500.

For a three-night stay on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the rate is $2,130.  That’s a savings of $370 for a three-night stay!

Utilize Rewards Programs

If you’re a frequent traveler, it’s very likely that you are a member of one or more rewards programs.

These can save you a considerable amount of money if you use them right.

You should always watch for emails from whatever programs you’re affiliated with because it is not uncommon for them to offer periodic extra perks, like more for your rewards points than usual.

Also, it helps to focus on one reward program in particular because points will add up faster, and that means more savings for you.

Book An All-Inclusive

It’s true, all-inclusives are typically more expensive than traditional resorts, but the fact that everything is included means you’re spending less on other things.

Food and drinks, in particular, can get very expensive on vacation.

With an all-inclusive, everything is already paid for, so you won’t run into any expensive surprises.

Many all-inclusive resorts also include some activities, so you’re saving money there as well.

Shop Around

Prices from one resort to the next vary significantly, even if they are in the same hotel class, so it’s important to shop around.

For example, the Royal Solaris Cancun All-Inclusive and the Moon Palace Cancun All-Inclusive are both highly-rated resorts with an 8.0 review rating on Booking.com.

The prices for a three-night weekday stay in July, respectively, are $1,113 and $1,736.  That is a $623 price difference for two resorts that are similarly rated.

Visit During Off-Season

In Cancun, the busiest months are in the winter and spring, so prices are considerably higher during those months.

Summer is considered the off-season, and hotels reflect this in their pricing, so you can save some money by visiting during this time.

For example, Live Aqua Beach Resort charges $2,130 for a three-night weekday stay in July, but that price goes up to $2,400 in January.

This might not be life-changing savings, but significant nonetheless.
