Things got a little splashy down in Cancun on Thursday night when a section of a tourist pier at the Aquatours Marina decided to take an unexpected dip. Luckily, even though a couple of people ended up in the water, everyone was pulled out safe and sound, without so much as a scratch.
The incident happened around the Aquatours Marina, which is located at kilometer 7 in Cancun’s bustling hotel zone. Now, there were some initial whispers floating around about something happening at the Riu Caribe hotel, which sits right across from the pier. Some reports even wrongly suggested part of the hotel collapsed but officials have clarified that the Riu Caribe itself wasn’t affected at all. It was just a portion of the pier used by tourists to hop on and off boats that gave way.
So, picture this: folks are likely getting ready for some fun on the water, maybe a sunset cruise or a trip to Isla Mujeres, and then, whoosh! Part of the pier beneath their feet suddenly decides it’s time for a swim. Thankfully, quick action meant the two people who took an unplanned plunge were rescued right away. That’s definitely a story they’ll be telling for a while!
While this little pier mishap caused a bit of a stir, it’s important to note that things could have been much worse. The fact that no one was hurt is definitely the biggest takeaway here. It serves as a little reminder that even in paradise, unexpected things can happen.

Of course the Sun only projected a happy ending for the "pier collapse". No comment about the pier being closed or not. No indication if lack of maintenance and inspections are the cause. Everything was swept under the water.
