It doesn’t take long to get from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen, and then to the island of Cozumel by ferry.

The total trip time is less than an hour and a half, roughly 45 minutes from Cancun to Playa del Carmen, and then a 20-40 minute ferry ride, depending on which one you choose.

The most popular option is the Ultramar ferry, but it’s pretty pricey, which has led to tourists complaining about the high cost of getting to this beautiful island near Cancun.

Flying Into Cancun Or Cozumel – Which Is The Better Option?

Getting From Cancun To Playa Del Carmen

If you do opt to fly into Cancun, you’ll need to book transportation to Playa del Carmen.

Up until recently, this could be expensive, particularly if you chose a taxi or private transportation.

Now you can opt for the Maya Train, though, which costs even less than an ADO bus ticket and will get you to Playa del Carmen even faster.

Just a small correction; Winjet and Ultramar alternate every hour. For example you might get an Ultramar ferry at 8:30, then Winjet at 9:30 or vice versa. Thanks for the information!!
