Passengers on a recent Volaris flight had quite the scare on a recent trip to Cancun. Mexican airline Volaris has released a statement following an emergency landing of one of its aircraft operating a flight from Querétaro to Cancún. The incident on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, involved significant onboard events, including turbulence and the deployment of oxygen masks, before the plane returned to its original airport.
According to passenger accounts detailed in reports from Mexican news outlets, the Volaris flight, which departed from Querétaro Intercontinental Airport (QRO) en route to Cancún International Airport (CUN), experienced significant issues shortly after takeoff.

Passengers Daniela and Judith, whose accounts were included in the reports, described a sequence of concerning events. Approximately 20 minutes into the flight, after flight attendants instructed passengers to remain calm, fasten their seatbelts, and stay seated, the turbulence reportedly intensified.
It was during this period of stronger turbulence that, according to Daniela, “the oxygen masks came down.” Airline staff then instructed passengers to put on the masks as the plane continued to travel through the turbulent zone for an estimated 30 minutes.

Following this, Daniela recounted that the pilots initiated very abrupt descend. Another passenger, who was seated at a window, reported seeing the aircraft’s wings tilted during these maneuvers.
Shortly after, passengers were informed that the flight would be returning to the Querétaro airport. According to Judith, the reason given by the airline staff was “a lack of pressurization.”
The return journey was also reported to have involved further turbulence. However, the aircraft eventually landed safely back at the Querétaro Intercontinental Airport.

Upon landing, Volaris employees at the Querétaro airport reportedly offered passengers options for a refund of their tickets, rescheduling their flight for another day, or taking the flight that was scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Notably, the airline staff did not provide any explanation to the passengers regarding the specific reasons for the events that occurred during the flight.
Following the incident, Volaris issued a statement acknowledging the disruption and expressing regret for the inconveniences experienced by its passengers. The airline reiterated its commitment to safety. However, the statement, as reported, did not elaborate on the specific events described by the passengers, such as the turbulence, the deployment of oxygen masks, or the reported lack of pressurization.

This incident highlights the potential for significant and concerning events during air travel and underscores the importance of clear and timely communication from airlines to passengers regarding the reasons behind flight disruptions. The experiences shared by passengers Daniela and Judith paint a picture of a potentially alarming situation onboard the Volaris flight.
