Why Americans Are Flocking To Cancun More Than Anywhere Else This Year

Last Updated

Cancun is popular among travelers from every corner of the world, but the warm sunny vacation destination is most popular among American tourists.

A recent report shows that of the 6.5 million travelers who visited Mexico in the first six months of the year, 2.6 million visited Cancun.

And there are 6 reasons why Americans are flocking to Cancun more than anywhere else this year.

Affordable Direct Flights

A recent survey conducted by online travel agency Priceline determined that Cancun is one of the most affordable vacation destinations to travel to right now.

This is due to the availability of cheap flights during the “shoulder season,” which runs from now until about Labor Day.

The average cost for a roundtrip flight to Cancun Airport during this timeframe is around $400, not bad for a ticket to a tropical paradise.

A Lot Of Incredible All-Inclusives

One of the biggest reasons Cancun is and always has been so popular among American tourists is the large number of incredible all-inclusive resorts.

Just in the Hotel Zone alone, there are approximately 100 hotels to choose from, many of which are all-inclusives.

This gives tourists the ability to book a Cancun vacation somewhere that has everything, giving visitors the opportunity to have a great vacation without ever even having to leave their resort if they don’t want to.

Fascinating Culture And History

It’s true that Cancun was developed specifically to be a resort town.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t still fascinating culture and history to explore.

In Cancun itself, and even more beyond the popular tourist destination, visitors can explore Mayan history and Mexican culture at various archeological sites, in Mexico’s charming Magic Towns, and in all kinds of nooks and crannies throughout the region.

A Stunning Coastline Full Of Beaches

Of course, the number one reason Americans love Cancun is the stunning coastline with amazing beaches as far as the eye can see.

The sparkling white sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise water are what vacation dreams are made of, and Cancun and the rest of the Mexican Caribbean have no shortage of them.

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful beach to relax on or a lively beach lined with beach clubs and cantinas, there’s a beach for you in Cancun.

Multiple Nearby Exciting Destinations

As if Cancun doesn’t have enough to offer as a vacation destination, its location allows tourists the opportunity to explore even more exciting destinations.

Places like Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Bacalar, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos all have their own unique identities too.

Many of these places are only minutes away from Cancun by car or ferry.

Endless Opportunities For Adventure

While Cancun is mostly known for being a beach vacation destination, the geographical location of the city provides endless opportunities for adventure too.

Surrounded by the Mayan jungle, cenotes, and underground rivers that can be explored, in addition to the Caribbean Sea, makes for a lot of options.

For the adventurous traveler, the region is a proverbial gold mine of activities.

The Best Time To Visit Cancun

There really is no bad time to visit Cancun, but this is the season to visit if you want to vacation with fewer crowds and possibly have the opportunity to save some money.

The busiest seasons are the winter and spring months.

Unless you’re trying to escape the cold or you want to visit when Cancun is packed with tourists, you might want to avoid those seasons.
