Cancun welcomed more than 30 million tourists last year, and a huge number of them were from the U.S.

In fact, when it comes to international tourists visiting Cancun and other Mexican Caribbean vacation destinations, America is the top market.

More than 3 million American tourists have already visited the popular vacation destination this year, and there are a few reasons why Americans are traveling to Cancun more than ever.

All-Inclusive Experiences

One thing that Cancun does not have any shortage of is fantastic all-inclusive resorts.

With more than 100 hotels to choose from just in Cancun alone, most of which are all-inclusives, there’s the perfect resort for everyone who wants an all-inclusive experience.

These resorts are known for amazing amenities, like 24-hour in-room dining, premium beverages, fantastic food, entertainment, and some great activities.

Premium Beaches

Another thing that Cancun is not lacking in is beaches, and they are some of the most beautiful in the Caribbean.

The soft white sand and the sparkling crystal clear turquoise water have been enticing American travelers for decades.

Whether walking along the beach, taking a dip in the calm clear water, sunbathing on the soft warm sand, or having a drink and enjoying the view, you can always expect to see American tourists enjoying Cancun beaches.

Culture And History

While the beaches are undeniably the biggest draw in Cancun for American tourists, travelers also love that it is so much more than just a beach destination.

The culture and history of Cancun and the rest of the region are fascinating too, with so much to explore.

Particularly, the Mayan ruins and Mayan and Mexican culture and history are something that many American visitors spend some time exploring when visiting Cancun.

Direct Flight Availability

It’s almost as easy for American travelers to fly to Cancun as it is to travel within the continental United States.

This is because American tourists can fly directly to Cancun International Airport from 38 different cities throughout the U.S.  Some of these flights are offered not just a few times a week but multiple times a day.

From Dallas-Fort Worth to Cancun, for example, there are 253 direct flights just this month!

Affordability

It may seem like a Cancun vacation would be really expensive, with all that it has to offer, but a trip to the popular vacation destination can be surprisingly affordable.

Of course, the ultimate cost will depend on the choices you make in accommodations, flights, activities, and dining.

But even if you choose a decent all-inclusive and enjoy some tours, you can keep a 7-day vacation for two in the $3,000 range.

Cancun’s Huge Growth In Recent Years

Cancun began to develop as a popular vacation destination for Americans in the 1980s but has skyrocketed in popularity over the last couple of years.

Much of this is stemming from the pandemic when Mexico’s borders remained open, and Americans working from home flocked to destinations like Cancun for work and play.

That momentum has continued since the pandemic ended and doesn’t seem like it will slow down much anytime soon.

When To Visit Cancun

Cancun is a great vacation destination to visit at any time of the year, but there are a few things to consider that could sway you towards one season or another.

The winter months are busy because Americans flock to Cancun to get away from the cold, and in March and April, the spring break crowds arrive.

Hurricane season lasts from June through November but Cancun is even more affordable during these months.

The last bad hurricane to hit the region was in 2005, so it might be worth the risk to vacation in Cancun during the summer, but fall and winter are great times to visit too.
