Why The Beginning Of The Year Is The Best Time To Visit Cancun

If you ask the tourists who love Cancun the most they’ll tell you that there really is no bad time to visit the much-loved Mexican Caribbean vacation destination.  But while Cancun may be an exciting place to visit any time of the year, there are a few reasons to visit during a specific time of year that may help you decide when to plan your vacation for.  That time is earlier in the year, and we’ll tell you exactly why the beginning of the year is the best time to visit Cancun.

Cancun Tourism Seasons

If you’ve done some research on vacationing in Cancun you may have found that the slowest seasons are the summertime and fall and that there are also fewer tourists in May.  The busiest times are during spring break, the Easter holiday, and during the winter months.  But while the winter months may be more crowded, there are some benefits to visiting Cancun in January or February, and we’ll tell you what they are.

Mild Temperatures

Not only does Cancun get approximately nine hours of sunshine in January and February but with that sunshine comes beautifully mild temperatures too.  Visitors can expect temperatures between around 75 and 85 degrees during this time.  Not only is this great beach weather, but the mild temperatures are ideal for exploring the jungle, adventure parks, and ancient Mayan ruins as well.

Less Sargassum

Sargassum, which is a brown seaweed with a putrid smell as it decomposes, has become a serious issue over the years, as it washes up on Cancun’s beaches.  The sargassum season generally runs from June to August, and although sargassum can wash up any time of the year, these are the months it is typically the worst.  January and February are the months that you’ll have to deal with very little if any, sargassum.

Beat The Spring Breakers

While there are still fairly big crowds of tourists in Cancun in January and February, you won’t have to deal with spring breakers.  They are typically louder and rowdier and tend to fill the hotels to capacity when they’re in town.   The crowds earlier in the year are generally made up of more couples and families and the atmosphere is more laid-back than in March and April.

No Hurricanes

One of the best things about visiting Cancun in January or February is that you don’t have to worry about hurricanes coming through and ruining your vacation.  The hurricane season runs from June through November, with the highest risk of a storm being in September and October.  While travel insurance will help you recover the cost of your vacation if it is ruined by a hurricane, it won’t protect you from the dangers of a storm if you’re in Cancun, but in January and February, you don’t have to worry about that.
