The state of Quintana Roo, which is the home state to the Riviera Maya and destinations like Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cancun, has well over 1,000 hotels.
Among these hotels, many of which are luxury all-inclusives, there are over 100,000 rooms available.

The Maya Train
One of the things that will boost popularity in the Riviera Maya more than anything else is the completion of the Maya Train.
Once fully operational, you’ll be able to travel not only to destinations up and down the Mexican Caribbean coast but more inland within the Yucatan Peninsula, too, faster and for cheaper than ever.
This will completely change travel in the region by allowing tourists to visit multiple destinations in one visit, giving travelers even more of a reason to visit this region in Mexico.

Tulum Airport
Not quite as equally important as the Maya Train, but still a huge deal, is the Tulum Airport, which is already completed.
The new airport, which is actually located about 20 miles from Tulum in the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, is an international airport, but so far, there are very few flights from U.S. and Canadian cities that fly into the airport.
This year that is going to change, though, and the new option will no doubt help in increasing the region’s popularity.

More Connectivity
Cancun already has great connectivity with the U.S. and Canada, with more direct flights to the vacation destination than ever before.
Currently, American travelers can fly nonstop to Cancun from 41 U.S. cities, and Canadian travelers can fly direct to the destination from 21 cities.
The new Tulum Airport, in addition to more flights to Cozumel Airport being added, will only increase connectivity and, with it, tourist arrivals.
