Although the entire Mexican Caribbean is growing at record pace among travelers this year, Tulum, a stunning historical destination south of Cancun, is outright skyrocketing in popularity.

The coastal destination has a lot going on for it; from its stunning historical Mayan ruins to its pristine shores, Tulum is a versatile vacation hotspot that welcomes millions of visitors each year.

Massive Projects To Boost Tulum Popularity

Situated in the southern part of the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo, Tulum is famous for having the largest and most impressive Mayan ruins in the region. The coastal destination is also home to an excellent array of top-rated all-inclusives, making it a popular choice for the ultimate tropical getaway.

Despite its rising popularity, the construction of the Maya Train railway project is expected to accelerate Tulum’s accessibility further, allowing millions the possibility to reach the historical destination faster than ever before.

The project, led by the federal government, seeks to capitalize on Tulum’s unparalleled historical and cultural value, providing travelers with more options to reach the growing destination.

Work on Tulum’s massive new train station is ongoing and is forecast to conclude sometime this fall. Covering an area of more than 14,000 square meters, the train station will be one of the Maya Train’s largest.

With its gorgeous Mayan-inspired design that is seamlessly integrated into Tulum’s lush landscape, the station will provide travelers a unique first impression of the location’s historical surroundings.

Convenient bus connections will make reaching Tulum’s Archeological Zone or the city’s beachfront resorts a breeze. In addition to several new infrastructure projects, new hotels around the train station are also being built, which can accommodate the sharp rise in expected arrivals.

Tulum’s centuries-long history is attracting a growing number of travelers who are keen on exploring its ancient ruins and countless artifacts. As a result, officials are investing millions of dollars in building a huge new museum in the newly-created Jaguar National Park. The construction of the new museum is nearly complete and is expected to open its doors later this year.

Tulum’s New Airport Attracts Attention From Passengers And Airlines Alike

Aside from the flagship Maya Train railway project, officials are making significant progress on the construction of Tulum’s new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport

Designed to serve up to 5.5 million passengers per year, the massive airport will cover an area of more than 3,000 acres. The aerial hub will be the fourth international airport in the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo, with a huge potential for new direct connections across North America.

When combined, the Maya Train and Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport will firmly place Tulum as a leading global tourism destination capable of welcoming millions of travelers each year.

According to Bernardo Cueto, Quintana Roo’s Secretary for Tourism, new investments in tourism mean travelers will notice a host of improvements in the long run that will make Tulum one of the most competitive destinations for mass travel.

@montanadarby Honest review of Tulum! I would definitely still recommend adding Tulum to your Mexico itinerary as there’s so much to see and do here, but overall, I personally much preferred Downtown Tulum over the Tulum Hotel Zone. Hotel Zone is great for visiting for the day to chill on the beach or going to a cool beach club or nice restaurant for the evening but other than that I definitely think it’s overrated and wayyyyyyyyyy over priced! Downtown Tulum for the win in terms of authentic Mexican food and more realistic prices. #mexico #tulum #mexicoitinerary #travelling #backpacking #tulummexico ♬ Luxury fashion (no vocals) – TimTaj

“These projects will allow Tulum to renew its tourism offerings for thousands of travelers yearning to discover this growing destination.” Despite mainly targeting travelers, improved infrastructure means Tulum will also attract more long-term residents, including digital nomads.
