With sunshine and warm weather all but guaranteed for most days of the year, Cancun is considered by many travelers to be a year-round destination. With the country recently setting new records for the most travelers it has received in a year, there are millions around the world who agree – around 30 million, to be precise. That said, there are definitely some months that are better for travelers to visit Cancun than others – and February can definitely count itself as one of them.
Whether it’s because of the perfect weather or because it’s the last month before the beaches in the region become besieged by the stinky seaweed sargassum, here’s a closer look at why February is a strong contender for the best month to visit Cancun – and why now might be the best time book to enjoy the city.
Why February Is Perfect For Cancun Travelers
With record-breaking numbers of passengers flying in and out of Cancun International Airport last month as the new year grew ever closer, finding that dream resort in Cancun was like mission impossible for many travelers – and those that were available were charging a premium. Thankfully, however, for those with eyes set on visiting the city next month, finding a hotel that’s perfect for you will be a whole lot easier as hotel occupancy rates are lower at present.

Options To Choose From
While occupancy levels reached a staggering 90% in December, with many of the big-name resorts completely sold out, right now, the current levels are hovering at 65% for January and 54% for February. By booking now, travelers should find it much easier to find the perfect place to stay and have plenty of exciting options to choose from.
Yet while occupancy rates remain lower for now, this won’t be the case over the next few weeks. February is still in what’s considered to be Cancun’s high season, and so the hotel booking rates are expected to increase as the month draws closer. If you’re hoping to secure a reservation, it’s recommended that you finalize a booking sooner rather than later.
Plenty Of Flights
Additionally, most airlines will still be providing their seasonal flights to Cancun, providing travelers with a sizeable level of flexibility when it comes to choosing both suitable rooms and flights. As travelers know, flexibility is key when it comes to making a vacation more affordable, and so the luxury of not having to be tied down to specific dates means that travelers are more likely to find deals that work for them and leave them with extra money to spend on their trip.
Perfect Weather
From a climate point of view, February also ticks all of the right boxes. Average temperatures in the city range from lows of around 70°F to highs around the 90°F mark – meaning it’s never too hot to enjoy — and far from cold. February is about as cool as it gets in Cancun, making it an ideal time to visit for those who aren’t keen on overheating on their vacation.
No Sargassum
Finally, another huge reason why February is the perfect time to visit Cancun is that it’s likely to be the last month that beaches are free from the invasion of sargassum. The stinky seaweed was out in force last year, ruining the trip for many travelers – and early signs are suggesting that it will be back with a vengeance from March. If you want the perfect beach pics or to swim in the sea while it’s relatively clear, February could well be your last chance to do so for several months.
