Why You Should Book Your Cancun Airport Transportation In Advance This Winter

Last Updated

Getting to your destination’s airport while taking a vacation is only half the journey.

Once there, you’ll need to get from the airport to your hotel, a detail that is often an afterthought but important to consider.

Getting from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone, where you’ll likely be staying, is a bit pricey.

Finding transportation at Cancun Airport can also be pretty hectic because it’s almost always busy, especially during high season.

This is one among several reasons why you should book your Cancun airport transportation in advance this winter.

Read on to find out more reasons why this is a good idea.

Record Breaking Arrivals

It’s not uncommon for Cancun Airport to see more than 500 operations a day, most of which are from international destinations.

Just recently the airport had a day with even more operations than usual, with the record-breaking number of a total of 603.

Half of those operations are arrivals, so when you arrive in Cancun you can expect a lot of other travelers to be looking for transportation to their airport too.

If you book in advance, you won’t have to battle with other travelers to find a ride.

No Mystery Regarding Cost

Another benefit of booking your airport transportation in advance is that there is no mystery about what you’ll pay.

In some cases, when taking a taxi, drivers will try to haggle over price or even flat-out overcharge unsuspecting tourists who don’t know what the going rate is.

If you book in advance your transportation will already be paid for so you don’t have to worry about this.

Comfort And Convenience

Typically you’ll find that private transportation companies have larger, cleaner, newer, and more comfortable vehicles than taxi drivers in Cancun.

The convenience factor is also another reason to book transportation in advance.

When you arrive at the airport, a driver will be waiting outside with a sign with your name on it.

It doesn’t get much more convenient than that.

No Worrying About Pirate Taxis

If you’ve never heard of pirate taxis, then you should know that they’re a thing in Cancun.

A “pirate taxi” isn’t really a taxi at all, but rather someone who makes their vehicle look like a taxi and tries to get away with offering service.

They don’t have permits and there’s no way to tell if their vehicle is even legal.

They can be avoided by booking your transportation in advance.

Easier To Avoid The Shark Tank

The “Shark Tank” at Cancun Airport is another thing that you want to avoid.

It’s an area right near the airport exit where timeshare sales people hang around trying to get travelers to attend lengthy sales presentations.

They offer certain perks to try to draw people in, but a long sales presentation is not how most people want to start their vacation.

They will sometimes even lie about being transportation providers to get you into their vehicle, but you can avoid them easier if you already know that you have your transportation booked.

Types Of Transportation You Can Book In Advance

There are several different types of transportation that you can book in advance when visiting Cancun, some more affordable than others.

Private transportation is the most costly, running around $100 each way.

The more affordable option is a private or semi-private shuttle, which can cost as little as half of that.

Whatever you decide to do, if you book in advance, you’ll be happy that you did if you’re visiting Cancun during the busy winter season.
