3 All-Inclusive Cancun Resorts You Don’t Need To Wake Up Early To Save A Pool Chair

Share The Article

It’s the most dreaded and absurd ritual of an all-inclusive vacation: the 6:00 AM alarm. You’re in paradise, yet you find yourself stumbling through the pre-dawn darkness, clutching towels and a paperback, just to “claim” a lounge chair by the pool. This is the “towel game,” and it’s the number one complaint that can turn a relaxing getaway into a stressful, competitive chore, especially during the busy high season.

While most resorts are plagued by this problem, a select few have successfully engineered a solution. Here at The Cancun Sun, we’ve done a deep dive into on-the-ground 2025 traveler reports to find the Cancun and area resorts where you can actually sleep in and still find a great spot by the pool.

The solution, we’ve found, comes in two forms: massive scale or active enforcement.

1. The “Massive Scale” Solution: Hotel Xcaret México

Hotel Xcaret doesn’t just have pools; it has a sprawling, natural water system. The resort is built into a landscape of underground rivers, jungle coves, hidden caves, and inlets, in addition to its numerous, massive infinity pools.

Inside the Massive Xcaret Hotel
  • Why It Works: The sheer number of seating areas is staggering. If the main pool is busy, you can walk 60 seconds and find a secluded, sandy cove with loungers. You can grab a tube and float down the river, finding countless spots to relax along the way. Recent 2025 traveler reports on TripAdvisor consistently confirm this. One guest noted, “We were there during a busy week and never once had to look for a chair. There are so many hidden pools and areas on the river, we found a new spot every day.”
  • The Verdict: At Hotel Xcaret, the property is the water park. The “towel game” is rendered obsolete because the resort’s design offers a near-infinite number of places to swim and relax, far beyond a traditional pool deck.

2. The “New & Sprawling” Solution: AVA Resort Cancun

As one of the newest and largest mega-resorts in the region, the 1,600-room AVA Resort Cancun was clearly designed to solve this exact problem. The resort’s massive oceanfront footprint features a series of enormous, interconnected pools that stretch nearly the entire length of the property.

  • Why It Works: It’s a simple matter of a massive supply meeting high demand. In addition to the main pools, the resort features a gigantic 2.8-acre sustainable saltwater lagoon, which alone is lined with hundreds of chairs and cabanas. A recent 2025 Reddit review from a high-season traveler put it perfectly: “The best part about AVA was no towel game. Even at 11 AM, we could easily find a group of chairs by the main pool. There is just so much space, it never felt crowded.”
  • The Verdict: AVA’s modern, sprawling design ensures that finding a spot is never a source of stress, allowing you to operate on your own vacation schedule, not someone else’s.

3. The “Active Enforcement” Solution: Excellence Playa Mujeres

While not as massive as the others, Excellence Playa Mujeres (EPM) is famous for solving the problem with a different, more direct approach: active enforcement.

  • Why It Works: EPM is one of the few resorts that actually enforces its “no saving chairs” policy. As countless 2024 and 2025 traveler reviews have reported, the pool staff are vigilant. If they see a chair left unattended with just a towel, they will place a small, dated warning tag on it. If the owners don’t return within a set period (usually 60 minutes), the staff will politely fold the items and remove them, opening the chair for a new guest.
  • The Verdict: This “warning tag” system is a godsend for travelers who hate the morning rush. One recent guest praised it, saying, “I wish every resort did this! We saw staff removing towels all the time. It’s the first resort I’ve been to where you can actually show up after breakfast and find a great chair.”

Honorable Mentions: Where The Rules Are Different

  • The Ultra-Luxury Tier (Le Blanc & Grand Velas): At these $1,500+ per-night resorts, the “towel game” doesn’t exist for a different reason. The staff-to-guest ratio is so high that the pool attendants will simply find and set up a chair for you the moment you arrive.

  • The “Work in Progress” (Moon Palace): It’s important to note that a policy on paper doesn’t always equal reality. Moon Palace has recently launched a new policy with signage to stop chair saving. However, 2025 traveler reports are still overwhelmingly negative, stating that enforcement is spotty at best and the “towel game” at The Grand remains one of the most competitive in Cancun.
