Located on the Mexican Caribbean coastline, it’s no doubt Cancun’s beaches have some of the most transparent waters in the world.

Famed for its turquoise color and crystal clear waters, it makes it the ultimate destination for water activities such as snorkeling, diving, and swimming.

Cancun boasts a wonderfully tropical climate all year round and is generally sunny. Despite the rainy season, you can still catch some rays most of the time.

In fact, during winter, temperatures typically don’t even go below 70 Fahrenheit, so it’s perfect for that winter escape.

There are so many beaches for you to choose from to suit your preference. Whether it’s a relaxing or lively beach, there’s definitely something for everyone – some of the more popular ones include Playa Delfines, Playa Tortugas, and Playa Marlin.

But here are 3 reasons Cancun has the best beaches in the world:

Limitless Amenities And Endless Possibilities

Although it is famed for being a pretty beach destination, Cancun is also known for being a hive of activities to choose from, from cultural events to vibrant nightlife and water sports.

Adventure seekers won’t be disappointed, you can swim with whale sharks or zip line through the jungle, or if you’re looking for a chilled vacation, you will be spoilt for choice with various wellness centers and spas.

Also, some of the best international and local cuisines in the state can be found in Cancun, no matter what you’re craving!

If that’s not enough, you can learn all about the culture of Mexico, with nearby ancient Mayan ruins, a local festival, or perhaps a cooking class where you can cook up a storm and make some legit Mexican food!

The Cleanest Beaches

Another amazing part of Cancun’s beaches is that the government is constantly keeping an eye out for sargassum and cleaning it up when they can.

Not only that, citizens and even some tourists get involved in reducing the impact of trash on the beaches so that they can be as clean as possible for visitors and locals.

In fact, between 2010 – 2022, the Ocean Conservation Association found around 17 thousand kilos of garbage on the state of Quintana Roo’s beaches.

This is quite a lot – so they now promote the prohibition of single-use items, and if you want to get involved, their next clean-up is scheduled for June 3, 2023.

Apparently, the majority of items typically found are things like candy, glass bottles, cigarette butts, and food containers.

Starting at around 8 am and lasting for approximately 3 hours, there are about 350 volunteers expected to help with the operation, and it covers around 4 kilometers of beach on the stunning Isla Blanca, next to Laguna de Chacmuchuch.

If you’re coming out to join, make sure to bring food, comfy clothing, closed shoes, and also the usuals like a hat, sunscreen, and a water container, to keep you hydrated.

Beach cleaners

They will provide water and garbage bags, but it’s recommended to leave your little ones at home, as it’s quite a strenuous activity.

The good news is that in 2023, they hope to extend their clean-ups further afield to other coastal towns such as Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, and potentially Holbox.

This is amazing news for tourists and locals and a wonderful initiative to look after the environment and keep the beaches clean and beautiful!

The Sand Doesn’t Burn Your Feet

Cancun’s beaches are known for being notoriously soft and powdery. In fact, the sand is so fine it somehow feels like you’re walking on flour.

If you didn’t know already, more than half of the sand in Cancun is actually made up of crushed coral, which is why the sand is so white! This also means that it won’t burn your feet, even in the hot weather, so your feet will stay nice and cool.
