Valladolid

This enchanting colonial town found in the state of Yucatán is a must-visit for history buffs, adventurous explorers, and food enthusiasts alike.

As one of the oldest towns in the state, Valladolid boasts an array of impressive colonial buildings, including notable landmarks like the San Servacio Church, Casas Cural, and La Casa de Los Venados.

Of particular interest is the San Servacio Church, which was constructed by the Spaniards using the remains of an ancient Mayan pyramid, lending the building a unique style and captivating beauty.

Surrounded by a multitude of Mexico’s most stunning cenotes, Valladolid offers a natural playground for exploration. Fortunately, there are many tours available that allow you to visit several of these stunning cenotes in a breeze.

But if you’re feeling lazy, worry not! Within the town itself, you’ll find the breathtaking Cenote Zaci, a mesmerizing sinkhole where you can enjoy a refreshing dip right in the heart of the town.

In terms of cuisine, Valladolid doesn’t hold back. Be sure to try the mouthwatering Poc Chuc, a marinated and grill-cooked pork delicacy, as well as the town’s signature dish, the aptly named ‘Lomitos de Valladolid,’ featuring succulent pork loin in a flavorful tomato sauce.

Bacalar

This small town near Chetumal (the capital of Quintana Roo, the state that encompasses Cancun) is renowned for its mesmerizing Bacalar Lagoon.

Boasting a spectrum of blue hues so breathtakingly beautiful that it almost appears unreal, Bacalar Lagoon is the ideal location to partake in a wide range of water sports, such as kayaking, sailing, and snorkeling.
