The inaugural ride along the first section of the Maya Train has already passed, with tickets selling out for the first ride almost immediately.
The next section just began operating, and the remaining sections will follow in the coming months.
Once fully operational there will be five ways that the Maya Train will revolutionize travel in the Mexican Caribbean.
Faster Travel
One of the greatest benefits that travelers visiting the Mexican Caribbean will have once the Maya Train is fully operational is being able to get to different destinations much faster.
The Maya Train travels at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour, which is just under 100 mph.
This means that to travel the entire route from Cancun, Quintana Roo to Palenque, Chiapas, which is across the entire Yucatan Peninsula, would only take about six hours.

Affordability
To hire private transportation to drive that same route mentioned above would cost a fortune.
Although all ticket prices for the Maya Train are not totally clear yet, it’s sure to be more affordable.
As an example, the tickets being sold for the dates currently available for the Cancun to Campeche section, which is a nearly 300-mile journey, are only going for around $67.

Access To Lesser Known Destinations
The speed and affordability of the Maya Train result in another benefit, which is being able to access lesser-known destinations.
The Maya Train route, which is made up of seven sections with 22 stations spread across the Yucatan Peninsula, passes through some pretty amazing places, like the archeological ruins of Chichen Itza, for example.
In the past, many tourists may not have had the time or budget to make it to some of these places, but the Maya Train will forever change that.

Safer Traveling
The Maya Train is also a safer way to travel through the Mexican Caribbean and the Yucatan Peninsula.
Not only do you not have to worry about driving and getting lost, or driving on bad roads, but there’s actually security on the train.
Furthermore, security is being enhanced in many of the cities and towns that the Maya Train will be traveling to, making travel in the Mexican Caribbean safer than ever.

Comfort
Nobody likes being stuck in a car for hours upon hours, even when looking forward to the destination.
The modern Maya Train cars, outfitted with comfy plush seating, reclining seats, restrooms, and plenty of space to move around, are a much more comfortable option.
Additionally, there is a restaurant car on the train, so passengers have everything they need for a comfortable journey through the Mexican Caribbean right at their fingertips.

Where To Get Tickets For The Maya Train
Currently, there is only one place to buy tickets in advance for the Maya Train, which is through the eTicket website.
Tickets will also be available at each of the train stations in the future.
Additionally, there is talk of the development of an app that will allow travelers to purchase and present tickets for the Maya Train.
