7 New Cancun Safety Measures Announced To Keep Tourists Safe

Despite Cancun’s recent issues with crime, people say that they feel safe in the destination. However, that won’t stop officials from doing what they can to enhance safety in the popular tourist city.

They are consistently launching various security operations to protect the millions of tourists who visit Cancun every year.

Now 7 new Cancun safety measures have been announced to keep tourists safe.

Installation Of Security Cameras

One of the things that Cancun officials have been working on for a while now is the installation of security cameras, especially in busy tourist areas.

Within the framework of that project, they have installed 70 monitoring points.

At each of those monitoring points, there are four cameras that are used for video surveillance.

C5 Connection

Not only has Cancun installed hundreds of cameras throughout the city, but they have also connected them to the state’s C5 Security Complex.

Mayor Ana Paty Peralta commented that they “already have 70 new Intelligent Monitoring Points (PMI), each with 4 cameras, all coordinated with the Quintana Roo Security Complex (C5), to have greater visibility of the city.”

This not only helps to deter crime in Cancun, but aids authorities in identifying, finding, and arresting criminals as well.

Technology Updates

We all know that technology is only good if it’s up-to-date, as old technology becomes obsolete once new technology is created.

So, it’s no surprise that Cancun has been updating its technology as well.

The C2 Control and Command Center, which is the department in charge of video surveillance in Cancun, received new technological equipment to aid in the operation.

Using Drones

Another major advancement in Cancun’s efforts to keep tourists and citizens in the destination safe is the use of drones.

The drones are the best technology out there.

They have the ability to stay in flight for around 40 minutes and they are equipped with night vision.

The drones can be used to search for and locate criminals before they can escape the area, as well as to locate victims of crimes.

Police Training

Cancun is also working on strengthening its police force with more training from the internal departments of the C2.

Those departments are the Analysis and Police Intelligence and the Intelligence and Command departments.

The goal of those departments, and the mayor of Cancun, is to “build the best police that Cancun has had in its history”.

New And Updated Equipment

In addition to continued training, another way that Cancun is improving its police force, and security overall, is by providing them and the C2 with new and updated equipment to work with.

New vehicles have been provided for the police, as have electronic tablets that will allow for more efficiency.

Additionally, the C2 was given new computers to be used for monitoring the police, the cameras, and the drones.

Increased Patrolling

Last but not least, Cancun has launched an increased patrolling campaign.

Various security organizations almost always monitor Cancun’s popular tourist areas, but additional elements have been added, particularly in the Hotel Zone.

A total of 60 members of the Navy and the Tourist Police Department have been deployed in this area to deter both extortion and the selling of drugs.

They will be stationed every mile and a half along the Hotel Zone, which is the busiest tourist area in Cancun.

So, if you’re worried about safety when visiting the destination, rest assured that Cancun is doing everything it can to protect tourists while visiting.
