Many people take their annual Cancun vacations during the summer months for a number of reasons.

It’s the perfect time to get away to somewhere cooler if you live in a warm climate or warmer if you live in a cooler climate, kids are out of school during the summer, and it’s the best season to enjoy a beach vacation.

And if you’re planning a Cancun getaway for the summer months, you’ll want to check out these 7 things you should know when planning a summer vacation in Cancun:

Hotels Are Cheaper

One of the best reasons to visit Cancun during the summer months, and why it may be worth it to deal with heat, humidity, rain, and sargassum, is that hotels are typically cheaper.

In particular, June is generally the cheapest summer month to visit Cancun.

As an example, an all-inclusive four-night stay in an oceanfront junior suite from Thursday to Monday at Hyatt Zilara Cancun in June will cost around $2,644 for two people, whereas in April, that stay would run about $3,099.

Smaller Crowds

Some travelers love crowds and meeting people during their vacations, but others like to spend their vacations resting and relaxing with little chaos.

If this is you, then you probably want to visit Cancun during the summer months because you will find smaller crowds than during the peak season, which is during the wintertime.

As with most warm-weather vacation destinations, the winter months are typically busier, and the summer months are generally slower.

Best Time To Swim With Whale Sharks

Swimming with whale sharks is an adventurous and exciting, and also very popular, activity in Cancun.

Whale shark season in Cancun begins around April to May, but the best time to see them is later in the season.

So if this is something that you want to do, remember that the best time to swim with whale sharks will typically be July and August.

Water Temperature Is Perfect

The absolute must-do when visiting Cancun is taking a dip in the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean, and the best time to do it is during the summer.

Water temperatures are known to hover around 84 degrees Fahrenheit, which makes for perfect swimming conditions.

So if you plan to be spending a lot of time in the water, then summer is the best time for your Cancun vacation.

It’s Hurricane Season

Nature likes to keep things interesting, so just like in the U.S., summertime, everyone’s favorite season, is also hurricane season.

It’s been quite a few years since Cancun has been significantly hit by a major hurricane, but the risk is always there, so it’s an important factor to consider when planning a summer Cancun vacation.

At the very least, you may want to get travel insurance to cover your trip should it be canceled due to an impending hurricane.

It’s Hot, Humid, And Wet

The weather in Cancun during the summer months is very similar to what you will find in places like south Florida.

You can expect it to be hot and humid and to get some rain during your vacation.

June is typically the rainiest summer month, so you have a better chance of avoiding a lot of rain if you travel in July or August.

Luckily, even when it does rain, it tends to pour for a bit and then turn back to sunny weather rather quickly.

There’s Sargassum On The Beaches

Along with beautiful Mexican Caribbean beach days comes sargassum during the summer months as well.

While the brown seaweed can wash up during any time of the year, you’re more likely to see massive amounts of it during the summertime.

Most people who visit Cancun still go to the beaches when there’s sargassum because it isn’t harmful, but it does take away from the natural beauty a little bit.
